Faeries
"Out of all the creatures of the Faewild, none make me want to burn the forests to the ground more than the Faeries. How can these beings be so ancient and yet so childish. Their immaturity is only matched by their blatant disregard for the suffering of mortals" ~Church Paratir, Grand Archivist of the Authenian Archives. The most common of the Fae, Faeries are mischief makers that often lack the ability to see the full consequences of their actions until it is far too late, if they see the consequences at all.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Faeries have glowing green eyes, pale white or light green skin and light brown, blonde or red hair. They tend to have slim frames and are slightly shorter than humans. Much like Gancanagh, Changelings and Merrows, Faeries are incapable of growing body hair or facial hair. Faeries, much like Gancangh and Merrows, have pointed ears.
Normally Faeries possess less physical strength than the average human, and tend to me more sensitive to extreme temperature.
Biological Traits
Like all Fae, Faeries have an inborn magical ability. Faeries can fly almost as quickly as they can walk, can create magical illusions and can control and create plantlife. Some believe that these abilities have led Faeries to their less than impressive average strength, as they rely more on their natural magic than physical prowess.
Ecology and Habitats
Faeries inhabit areas in the Faewild that have a intermediate temperature, as they are unable to cope with extreme colds or intense heats. They favour wooded areas, though they can happily in simple plains and grasslands without any adverse effects.
Dietary Needs and Habits
While Faeries do not need to eat, due to being immortal nature spirits, most do solely for the enjoyment they experience from the activity. Faeries seem to have developed a sweet tooth and particularly enjoy sugary foods. When not eating fruits and berries, Faeries enjoy pastries and other desserts.
Behaviour
Faeries have a playful, almost childlike quality to them, and often enjoy playing tricks on mortals and pranking them. And when a Faerie cannot find a mortal, they will settle for pulling a prank on one of their own kind.
For some Faeries, this desire to deceive and trick mortals develops into a form of sadism, and the tricks go from harmless to murderous. Out of all Fae spirits, only Faeries are known to commonly go insane.
Additional Information
Social Structure
Faeries are social creatures, and form societies in a similar fashion to mortals. The Faeries of the Faewild make up the majority of the two factions: the Seelie and the Unseelie Courts. Both societies are ruled by lords and a sovereign. The Seelie Court is ruled by the Faerie Queen, and the Unseelie Court is ruled by The Lord of Thorns.
Average Intelligence
Faeries are cunning creatures capable of outsmarting the average mortal, if not for the poor reputation that they have as tricksters. They are incredibly creative and often have an artistic spirit to them. They are crafty, and are great at improvisation.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Faeries have incredibly keen senses. They can easily read a book from over fifty metres away, hear a pin drop from the over one hundred metres away, and have a sense of smell on par with that of a canine.
Civilization and Culture
Major Organizations
Out of the two courts in the Faewild, The Seelie Court is the more benevolent. Colourful and cheerful, the Faeries of the Seelie Court spend much of their time partying, painting and pulling pranks on mortals and Fae alike. Lighthearted and childish, the Faeries of the Seelie Court are less likely to cause harm to mortals.
The Unseelie Court, while possibly not as powerful as the Seelie Court, they ,ake up for it with ferocity. The tricks they play on mortals tend to be less goodnatured and more malevolent. They take pleasure in the fact that their power is greater than that of mortals, and enjoy the fact that they can instil mortals with fear.
Beauty Ideals
Faeries do not like anything overly artificial, seeing things such as makeup as unappealing. They find piercings disgusting and do not understand the popularity of tattoos.
Faeries, like most Fae, find long natural hair to be rather attractive on both men and women. Finding a Fae with long hair is like finding green dragon with a heart of gold: Not impossible but far from average.
Courtship Ideals
Faerie relationships with other Faeries or Fae tend to begin in the same way mortals begin relationships: with mutual respect and adoration for each other. They see each other as equals.
Faerie relationships with mortals do not tend to be so respectful. Or even consensual. Whenever a Faerie becomes attracted to a human, they often use one of two tactics in order to begin a relationship. The first, and more straightforward tactic is to kidnap their chosen mortal and bring them to the Faewild with them, where they will spend eternity with them as a prisoner born out of twisted love and obsession.
The second, and rarer approach that Faeries use to claim a mortal as a mate is to offer them a contract to enter a pact. If the mortal is powerhungry enough to only skim over the contract, they will not realize that the true cost of gaining arcane power and becoming a warlock it to become the spouse of the Faerie. While this warlock is often given some degree of freedom, their patron Faerie will be able to summon them at will, allowing them to maintain the relationship to some extent.
Prolonged exposure to the Faewild changes many mortal races, particularly humans. After spending years in the Faewild, some mortals begin to change. Their skin goes a paper white, and their hair goes pale blonde. Their eyes become vibrant and often shine with otherworldly light. The most noticible feature of these people is that they no longer age, allowing their Fae spouse to keep them until the end of time itself. These individuals are known as the Fae Marked.
Even the Faerie Queen herself is said to keep a mortal against his will. Due to being Fae Marked, he has been alive and trapped in the Faewild so long that the Ceilic Clan he used to belong to is long forgotten.
Common Etiquette Rules
Faeries seem to be bound to a strange honour. While they can lie, and do very frequently, they cannot break the terms of a contract they struck with a mortal, unless the mortal broke the terms first. Even if abiding by the contract puts the Faerie in danger, they must fulfil their end of the bargain as long as the mortal is doing the same.
