The Seelie Court

"The larger of the two Fae Courts of the Faewild, the Seelie Court is more colour and cheerful than its counterpart, but the members of this court are no more merciful or righteous. Trusting any Fae is foolish, no matter if they approach you with a smile instead of a frown." ~Church Paratir, Grand Archivist of the Authenian Archives.

Structure

The Seelie Court is ruled by the Faerie Queen, an Archfae of incredible power, even by the standards of Archfae. Whoever the Faerie Queen was before becoming an Archfae is a complete unknown, and there is not a single being alive that knows her true name. Unlike most in the Seelie Court, the Faerie Queen is stern and orderly with a tight grip on her territory. She rarely appears cheerful, unless given the chance to destroy an enemy or when she is in the presence of the mortal that she ensnared.   Answering directly to the Faerie Queen are the Fae lords and ladies, each of which manages a specific aspect of the Seelie Court.   Alto Magnus is the Lord of Peace, and it is his duty to ensure that the territory owned by the Seelie Court does not turn to violent chaos. He is responsible for the loose laws that all within Seelie territory must abide, and is a skilled diplomat who works tirelessly trying to keep the Seelie Court from engaging in a war with the Unseelie Court.   Sibyl Hawthorne is the Lady of Coin, and is in charge of procuring wealth for the Court and managing its finances. She uses the Court's wealth to invest in ventures that have a high likelihood of profit. While true that most fae to not use money, currency can be a real asset when dealing with mortals, and when obtaining materials from realms other than the Faewild.   Erlking Andras is the Lord of Whispers, making him the spymaster for a vast organization of infiltrators within every corner of the Faewild, and according to some rumours, his influence spreads beyond. He spies on everything that he considers to be a potential threat to the Seelie Court, and if he feels that he needs to intervene, he is more than capable of orchestrating an assassination.   Aibell Malae is the Lady of War, and is known to be both a cunning strategist and an utterly terrifying warrior. Where Alto Magnus is meant to deal with crime and political intrigue, Aibell Malae crushes rebellions and slaughters any members of the Unseelie Court that attempt to probe their defences. Unlike most Archfae, Aibell Malae is most comfortable with a blade in her hand and armour on her body. She is the prime example of the unkillable nature of Archfae, seeing as no one has discovered her Nemesis Object.

Culture

The citizens of the Seelie Court live their immortal lives with a carefree attitude. They tend to have a creative streak, loving bright colours and art in all of its forms. Many of the fae within the Seelie Court live lives of indulgence and merriment, with little care for the serious matters of the world.   The cheerful nature of the citizens of the Seelie fae can often shield a deadly aspect. The line between creativity and madness often blurs, especially in fae. While most Gancanagh are even-tempered, Faeries are far more likely to experience some form of insanity than any other thinking species. While these eccentricities are usually harmless, they can lead Faeries to commit acts that would be harmful to other beings, typically mortals as the repercussions are lesser than what they would experience for wronging a fellow fae. The ways in which a manic Faerie might harm a mortal range from harmless pranks, to constantly meddling in their life, to kidnapping them out of obsession.

Assets

The Seelie Court is ruled by powerful Archfae, with magic capable of altering the very fabric of the Faewild. It is due to this incredible amount of power that the Seelie Court does not need to tax its citizens, as it is a self-sustaining organization. Most materials can simply be conjured by magic, or traded for during pacts with mortals.

Demography and Population

The vast majority of Seelie Fae are either Faeries or Gancanagh, and while nowhere nearly as common, Satyrs are the third most common species. Some Nymphs do live in the land owned by the Seelie Court, though the vast majority of these nymphs are visitors from Clan Ráille seeking to have their recently captured husbands Faemarked.

Military

The Fae Knights are a fearsome fighting force, due to the high quality of the equipment they use, the centuries of training that they have experienced and the magic they are capable of using. Seeing as all Fae Knights are traditionally Faeries, they are capable of flight due to their inborn natural magic. Fae Knights wear emerald green plate armour, and typically wield either a longsword or a glaive. Every Fae Knight is also expected to be able to wield a bow, so that they can be deadly no matter the range.

Religion

The Fae worship no one, though the higher ranking members of the Seelie Court have been known to make pacts with otherworldly beings for the betterment of the Faewild. The entities that the Seelie Fae make pacts with are not the Olympian Gods of Eregost, or the Titan Gods of Old. The Fae deal with older forces of creation itself.

Foreign Relations

The Seelie Court is on terrible terms with the Unseelie Court, the only other nation within the Faewild. While the Seelie Court sees the Unseelie as depressed nihilists nearing on psychopathy, the Unseelie Court sees the Seelie as manic childlike fools incapable of behaving in a responsible manner. Due to the Unseelie Fae's tendency to wear black or dark grey clothing, the Seelie Fae often refer to them as "Crows".

Laws

Within the Seelie Court, most laws apply only to Fae. This means that there is nothing to stop a Fae from ensnaring a mortal in a deceptive pact, as long as the Fae is holding up their end of the bargain. The rights of mortals is a contraversial topic in the Seelie Court. While some believe that all beings deserve some degree of fairness, others argue that the limitted lifespan of mortals means that their quality of life is ultimately meaningless. The Faerie Queen herself keeps a mortal against his will.
