Storm Hammer
A highly adaptable battle strategy centred around a commanding Skyship that serves as both a mobile command hub and a devastating aerial firepower platform.
Also known as the Eminus Storm Hammer. Named after Eminus stromheart the first battle commander to command a skyship during battle.
Core Components of the Formation
The Command Skyship (The "Smith of the Storm")
This is the heart of the formation, hovering at a moderate altitude where the commander has a full view of the battlefield.
Equipped with signal flags, or mages for communication to direct ground forces.
Armed with ballistae, long range spell casters, or alchemical bombs for precision strikes.
The commander also ensures that the skyship’s firepower is always directed where it’s most needed.
Ground Forces (The "Anvil")
Infantry, cavalry, and siege units form the main battle line, engaging enemies conventionally.
Their role is to hold positions, create choke points, or feign retreats to lure enemies into kill zones.
Often led by sub-commanders who receive real-time orders from the skyship via flares, messenger birds, or enchanted horns, or if needed sending spells.
Aerial Support (The "Hammer")
Smaller skirmisher winged cavalry on trained wyverns act as rapid responders.
They strike where the ground forces are weakest, or intercept enemy flanking attempts, if ground troops can not be repositioned quickly enough
Can also deploy smoke screens or illusions to confuse foes.
Adaptability in Battle
Flexible Fire Support: The Skyship can shift bombardment from one flank to another, adapting to the battle’s flow.
Deceptive Tactics: The formation can appear to be retreating, only for the skyship to unleash a devastating strike on pursuing enemies.
Counter-Enemy Adaptations: If foes try to hide in forests or tunnels, the skyship can deploy firebombs or seismic spells to flush them out.
Weaknesses
Vulnerable to Anti-Air: Enemy mages, flying beasts, or rival skyships could threaten the command vessel.
Weather-Dependent: High winds, magical storms, or fog could interfere with the skyship’s effectiveness.
Resource-Intensive: Maintaining a skyship and trained aerial units requires significant logistics.
History
During the end of the Fenderaian expansion war in the part between Fendera and The Tarmin republic.
There had been a long war for the forest territory. When the first skyship was finally built, it was almost immediately deployed to combat under battle commander Eminus stromheart. That with this new edge came up with the Storm Hammer formation, this first version of the formation did not have the aid of trained wyvern riders. Instead each ground formation got a couple of mages assigned to them for instantaneous communication, to relay what happened underneath the forest canopy. After the first few weeks of this new formation tactic, liquid launchable fire was made for the Skyship. This effectively ended the war. Now the mages could report large enemy formations into the command ship, and they could quickly move into position to drop liquid fire on the forest containing enemy troops. The fenderaians agreed to a withdrawal within the week.
This show of power, is what currently holds the peace on Dentrimore. Where current conflicts are more of the political and technological espionage type.
