Dunkelgrun East

Dunkelgrun East is a small village that lies east of Belhaim and toward the northeast edge of the Dunkelgrun region.

Demographics

Roughly 300 residents, consisting mainly of Humans, Halflings, and Gnomes, with a smattering of Dwarves and Tieflings. The townsfolk are hardy, industrious, and proud of their self-reliance, though they have tended toward being glum and somewhat haunted in their outlook in the past.

Government

There is little independant government in the village, though people have tended to look to their elder or more successful citizens when in need of help or advice. Because Elsa Valtervold Landry is of the prestigious Valtervold family, she and her husband Benjamin Landry, a successful businessman, have been seen as civic leaders.

Points of interest

Most of the village surrounds the common in the centre of the village simply referred to as "The Common" or "The Exchange" as local farmers often exchange goods and services with each other and the other villagers here. There is a statue of Elsa Valtervold Landry's grandfather at the western edge of the common.

Elsa Valtervold-Landry and Benjamin Landry live in the largest house in town, a modest yet dignified stone-and-timber structure at the north end of the village right at a bend of the small river running through the village. The townhouse is by far the tallest building in town with stylish, elven influenced upper floors added in the last decade. The lower floors actually house Benjamin's business, some offices and a small warehouse where he trades goods in and out of the village via the small river running past.

The Bull and Cockatrice sits on the southern edge of the common and is the local inn and tavern, run by Marlen and Gretchen Dorrick. Known for its spiced cider and hearty stews, it’s the villages’s main gathering spot for both travellers and locals.

There is a small shrine to Pelor just on the northern outskirts of Dunkelgrun East, sitting beside a bright and clear pool beside the river the shrine was usually attended by Father Edwin Crowthorne until his death.

The Shadow Wood is the darker, less travelled wood of broken ground and heavy shadows on the eastern side of Dunkelgrun east.

The Willow Wood is how the villagers refer to the woods mostly bordering the river running through Dunkelgrun East. Named for the willow trees that are commonly seen by the river branks, this is a lighter and less dangerous wood than The Shadow Wood.

Geography

Dunkelgrun East sits within the curve of the nearby river. It is bordered by the bright and airy Willow Wood, with the darker Whisper Wood to the east of the village.
