Devil's Throng

A settlement situated among ancient ruins in the Torma Desert . The residents are primarily Tieflings, but there are a small number of other races dwelling there as well. The town has no official leader, but most everyone looks to Elder Patience for wisdom and advice. The ruins themselves were once a temple to the desert goddess Echina , a statue to her remains mostly intact at the center of town. Beneath the statue is a dungeon known as the Proving Grounds, where new settlers go to earn Echina's grace.

Government

The people of Devil's Throng believe in the strength of community and cooperation. As such, they have no central power structure. Monthly meetings are held to discuss the needs and concerns of the community. All are welcome to attend these meetings and cast their vote on decisions made. Elder Patience abstains from voting unless she is needed to resolve a tie.

Defences

The harshness of the surrounding desert is the town's greatest defense. The town does have a small militia of around 50 men and women, as well as three watch towers stationed at the edge of town.

Points of interest

Temple of Echina - The central structure of the ruins that the town was built on. A temple thought to predate The Great Cataclysm. Today the temple is used as a city hall as well as a place of worship. A statue of Echina sits out front. The statue is mostly intact, missing only its left arm as well as the tail of the Lily Viper that encircles the body.

Proving Grounds - The base of the statue hides a passageway that leads to a vast network of underground corridors. Children who come of age, as well as outsiders looking to join the community, are tasked with collecting lilies from the desert and bringing them as an offering to the shrine inside the Proving Grounds. Certain corridors are marked with white paint, a sign that it is considered too dangerous to venture down those paths.
