Starkshore

A fishing town with a port that acts as one of the many pit stops for traders. Many times a ship will sell its goods here and another ship will buy them and distribute them further away. This is because going further east is more dangerous than the safe waters surrounding Stormhaven. The town has thrived off of this trade and while it is still a footnote to the larger cities in Hazra, any sailor worth his salt would know the name.

Defences

The city mostly relies on the Hazran Navy to keep the town's port safe, but it has a group of 60 guards spread out over the area to deal with rough crowds and banditry.

Industry & Trade

There are over five hundred fisherfolk in the town who all sell to various ship captains after prepping the fish for transport. Local lumber yards work to the north of the town and employ nearly 100 townsfolk.

Infrastructure

The town has a well maintained main road and reasonably maintained side streets thanks to Lord Shadwer's road initiative. Most of them are dirt but larger streets are cobblestone. A town square has been built in the center of the town, with all major roads connecting to it. Usually market stalls are set up there unless an event is taking place. The stalls mostly sell food from neighboring villages like beef, vegetables, fruit, etc. The docks are built over a deep lagoon, allowing for larger vessels to resupply or drop their goods off, and a lighthouse has been constructed a mile west of the city to warn of the rocks just under the water there. Perhaps most notably is the small castle built at the back of the town, which houses Lord Shadwer and his family.

Assets

As at trade town it boasts a large amount of food, textiles, and building supplies. Starkshore is also known for its fish, and is the only export they themselves produce. There is also an inn, a tavern (called the Storehouse), and a general store, all of which are owned by the Shadwers and have reasonable prices.

Guilds and Factions

A fisherman's guild ensures that the rules of the town are followed while also protecting smaller businesses from larger ones. They also ensure that there is no over fishing, as it nearly killed the town's economy a few decades prior. Lord Shadwer has good connections with the guild and has garnered goodwill by reducing their taxes in order to increase trade opportunities with larger ports.   Aside from the fisherman's guild, Stormhaven officials have funded a small branch of the commerce guild to be built there. They monitor all incoming and outgoing ships in a public record. There is also the defunct miners' guild, which has not met in years thanks to the closure of the local mines.

Architecture

The town is squat, with most buildings staying at one story and never going higher than two with thte exception of Lord Shadwer's castle. Most buildings are built with wood harvested from the forest to the northeast, and many are pigmented blue or red using dye made from local flowers such as [Artival's Eye] or windgrace.

Geography

The town is directly next to a deep lagoon and is protected on the western side by a series of small and rocky cliffs, and sheltered on the northern side by a small but dense forest.

Natural Resources

Fish schools migrate to the lagoon yearly to lay eggs allowing for easy fishing. Because of the migration, there is a ban on fishing for the first week that the fish arrive as to allow the fish to replenish their population. There is a copper vein deep in the forest, but the work was too dangerous for the profit being made so the small steadings made there were abandoned.
