Mountain's Shadow

The capital city of Zetia, Mountain's shadow is a large settlement that acts as the largest trading hub for the many foodstuffs that are grown in the country. It is also close enough to Blair Pass to be the first major city that is visited by pilgrims and travelers, making it a hot spot for international trade.

Demographics

Formal census data lost to a fire in the records building. Generally the most common race is human, with eladrin as the most prominent minority. There is a large middle class and most of the poor are taken care of by government assistance programs.

Government

Mountain's Shadow government is chaotic and complex. Though laws rarely get passed, it is a constant battle of wits and intrigue between the members of aristocracy to try and get their way. The king oftentimes must intervene during council meetings to try and keep order, but the more powerful council members frequently ignore him and push through their arguments.

Despite the political turmoil, the citizens of the city are fairly happy with their rulers. The tax laws are high but since many government run public works projects such as education, medicine, and housing use the money to stay afloat, few complain.

Defences

The city has little in the way of traditional defenses, with no wall around most of the city and only a few gaurd towers near the central portions.  . Recently a large ballista imported from Sandshear has been added atop one of the larger towers to the east. This addition was hotly debated since it implies that the city requires defending from its longtime ally Hazra, but the king was quick to assure people that this was not the case.

Industry & Trade

Mountain's Shadow uses its location to act as the base of operations for its food shipping operation. Warehouses full of crops are filled every year only to be emptied in the winter to ship them to other countries.

Infrastructure

The city has all the modern amenities of a large settlement: sewers, well maintained roads, marketplaces, an aqueduct, etc. However it lacks many notable features since zoning laws prohibit many types of architecture as well as placing height restrictions in most regions of the city. Because of the lack of diversity in architecture, many of the more artistically inclined people in the country have called for the capital to be moved to Arvozz Landing, since it is of far more significance to the country.

Geography

The city is built next to the foothills that lead to Blair pass, with fields growing a plethora of crops as far as the eye can see stretching into the distance. It gets fresh water via a large aquifer below it.
