Council Magorum Academy
The Council Magorum Academy is the longest standing magical learning center in Hazra. It is located in the Magister's district, and requires either a large monthly membership fee or an apprenticeship from an established Magister to use its facilities. There are five thousand members of the Magorum, one thousand of which stay there full time practicing magic and studying its laws.
Structure
The organization is run by the headmaster, who is appointed by the king. The headmaster runs much of the financial and political aspects of the CMA, and often times has little knowledge of practical magic due to the other skills required. One of the more important duties of the headmaster is granting the title of "Magister" to those who have passed the required tests held in the school. These Magisters are then given an area of the campus to manage and oversee. They are also required to teach at least three times a week. Below the Magisters are Mages, who also teach but do not manage anything. There are usually ten Mages under a Magister, and fifteen to twenty Magisters at any given time.
Students at the academy are separated into four ranks. From lowest ranking to highest ranking, they are: Initiate, Invoker, Wizard, and Mage. In order to reach the next rank in the academy, you must first complete all required teachings of the previous rank and then pass a practical exam showing you are capable of performing the magic you studied. Once you officially pass an exam, you are considered a "graduate" of that rank, and have a title given to you. In order these titles are Invoker, Wizard, Mage, and Magister. Most students only stay to achieve the rank of Wizard. A full education at the CMA (from initiate to mage) can take anywhere from 7-20 years, depending on the talent of the individual. Becoming a magister usually requires political savvy, luck, and a great deal of skill.
