Kos Mountains ((Kh-oss))
The Kos mountains are found in the south-west, bordering the Munahi Desert, and containing Nahxian.
They stretch high above the ground, with steep cliffs and harsh ravines. Their most notable feature is how cold they become in winter, one of only two places in Elgis where snow is common, the other being the Dyichos Mountains to the immediate east.
The stone of the Kos mountains are rich in quartz, making most rocks sparkle in the light. They are filled with gems and ores, being prime mining territory.
According to some surviving scraps of ancient texts recovered by Ruin Divers, somewhere in the general vicinity of the area around the Kos Mountains is where the palace of the earth Dragon Gods, Opsianos, was located. In this palace Opsianos was said to have horded her earthen treasures of diamonds, rubies, gold, and every other precious stone. Despite the intense searching of subsequent Ruin divers, none of them have found the location of Opsianos' palace.
Localized Phenomena
In the winter, when snow blankets the valleys, the mountains, and Baoshang Lake, the air at the mountain peaks becomes cold enough to solidify the Aeriou in the air. This aeriou crystallizes into sterea and falls onto the mountain peaks, leaving them covered in sparkling purple and blue gems. From a distance, the peaks seem to shimmer and dance as the gems fall from the peak, melt back into aeriou, rise back to the peak, and start the cycle all over again.
