Munahi Desert ((Moo-nah-he))

The Munahi Desert is located at the top northwest corner of the Elgian Map, its pitch black sands giving way to The Kos Mountains on one side, and the blue horizon on the other. Shadowed against the sky, there appears a multitude of crumbled ruins and three spires that become uncomfortable to look at when their distance from observation is considered. The desert sands so distinct radiate with a heat akin to an oven, so hot that flesh shrivels and burns on contact, and wood is immolated. Harsh winds blow across the desert, spurned on by the rising heat, and sometimes throw ember-like grains onto the Kos Mountains, lighting the sparse vegetation. This defining feature of the landscape is the origin of the name 'Munahi': being the Mavanish for 'Mummifier'.   The history of the Munahi desert stretches back to the beginning of the modern age. As the Fire Dragon God Pyra fled the devastation left by the god-war she'd incited, her wounds overcame her and she collapsed to the land far below. She gave a great bellow of flame before she died, her godly essence left her in a wave of flame so infernal that the heat blazed deep underground; liquifying the rock far below. That liquid rock is still burning, even four hundred years later; supplying the desert with its incendiary nature. Even with the incredibly dangerous conditions of the desert, the ruins on the horizon and the call of adventure have tempted many a fool onto the sands. A notable excursion included a group of Mavanish adventurers who used a cart to elevate themselves above the sands, a water mage to constantly soak the cart to prevent immolation, and an earth mage to shift the sands as a way of locomotion. This group went up in flames as soon as they touched the sands; the water evaporating before getting within three feet of the sands.   This desert is considered to be owned by the Mavanish Empire, but they have no want to truly enforce any real control over the region with its many dangers and lack of useful resources. Despite this seeming barrenness, the nearby city of Nahxian makes good use of the sands themselves: using them to fuel their furnaces and smithies.
