Ruin Diver
Ruin diving is a profession that involves scavenging materials and relics from the many ruins scattered across Elgis.
After the golden age of humanity in the ending age and the subsequent cataclysm of the Andier, there is no small amount of old structures just beneath the topsoil. These structures frequently contain destroyed machines, hordes of materials and valuables, and -incredibly rarely- functioning artifacts that have anomalous abilities. Like leaving cheese on the floor and finding rats swarming it, these valuables attract people of all kinds, searching for power, money, or even just archeological knowledge. These people are called ruin divers.
Career
Payment & Reimbursement
The pay a ruin diver can expect varies depending on the accumulated goods, the ability to sell those goods, and the bargaining ability of the individual. There is good money to be made, plenty of buyers with excess coin, but only for those skilled or lucky enough.
Perception
Social Status
For the older generations, ruin diving is considered the profession of those unfitting for other professions. To the younger generations, ruin diving is an exciting way to earn quick money with little required skill and no obligations.
Operations
Tools
A ruin diver's adventuring pack is likely to contain a length of strong rope to descend sheer drops with, tools with which to pick locks, torches and lightable materials, and rations.
Dangers & Hazards
Ruin diving is an incredibly dangerous endeavor. Anyone attempting to explore the decrepit structures can expect to deal with falls from excessive heights, dangerous creatures, collapses of structures and caves, becoming trapped or lost in the underground networks, and being assaulted by bandits.
