Godling
Godlings are a type of subspecies created from the meddling of the gods in Elgis.
They are created by the ascended gods partially manifesting in the bodies of a living organism. This partially tears apart the original organism as portions of their body are replaced by the manifested tissues of the god and are then rapidly reassembled.
Despite the hybridization with their god, Godlings are not true gods. Godlings cannot become true gods, and do not have access to the godly abilities given by the divine spark of the gods.
Godlings can be created from any type of living creature, though it is most common to find them in a bipedal, humanoid form. These include humans, Elves, and Dzakai. The altered individual will appear much like the original, though with the addition of features from their god such as horns, an inappropriate skin type, or unusual eyes. A godling cannot pass on their unusual traits or abilities to their children, as their genetic code is not altered.
Due to having parts of a god within their bodies, a godling gains a minuscule fraction of their gods' power over their domain. By drawing more of their god into themselves, a godling will gain a temporary increase in the potency of their god-gained power. If this state is maintained, however, the godlings body begins to tear itself apart as the god tissues continue to consume and replace the original flesh. This process is known as channeling. After the godling has stopped channeling their god, they are left with more unnatural features than they'd had before.
The presence of godlings in Elgis is a new phenomenon, the first recorded instances coming from the early hundred Metah's. Despite the three hundred-odd years that they have existed, very few people are aware of their existence. Even then, certain types of godlings are well-known, such as Dragon-kings.
