Walder Forest

The Walder is a haunted forest in central Eisen. Its large size and multitude of dangers make it a no-mans land in Eisen, with several of the local leaders refusing to lay claim to it. Travel through the Walder is extremely dangerous, and is best done in large groups, or not at all.

Geography

The Walder is made up of dense trees that grow tightly enough together that they block out much of the natural light. Many of the trees are very tall, easily climbable, and rarely fall over due to their interconnecting branches. The air inside is frequently wet, though the timing of the local weather lags behind that of the rest of Eisen due to how long it takes rain to filter through the canopy.   After particularly lengthy rainstorms, a cool white mist sometimes rises from the ground. The cause of this is unknown, but the mist has the dangerous property of draining the vitality of those trapped in it. Local fauna know to climb trees to avoid the deadly mist or to retreat into their burrows while it is present, as the mist doesn't last in enclosed spaces.

Fauna & Flora

The Walder is home to a rather standard collection of forest creatures - deer, rabbits, and the like - but is also home to more dangerous creatures. Not all of these are documented, but many can also be found elsewhere in Eisen. Ghouls, larger-than-average wolves, and vampirs are just some of the common ones. Rumors persist of shapeshifters living inside the forest as well, but anyone who would have been able to confirm the rumors usually perishes inside the forest without being able to tell their tale.

Natural Resources

A handful of very brave or very foolish souls try to get wood from the edges of the Walder.
