Mayakish
Mayakish is the heart of the Emirate of Sulkara; its political, cultural, and spiritual capital. Situated around the shimmering Lake Farsara, this radiant city is a jewel of fire genasi heritage, famous for its gleaming architecture, canals, ritual bonfires, and deep traditions. Mayakish is a place where the past walks beside the present—where ancient lore and modern artistry fuse in a vivid, beating metropolis.
Government
The city is ruled by Prince Hamid Matouf, the Emir's youngest son. The prince oversees both the day to day running of the city and its surrounding region, and is also the commander of the regional military force. Not much is publicly known about the prince - he mostly spends his days in the palace, letting his city council make most of the public speeches and appearances.
Defences
As the headquarters of the Sulkaran military forces and the capital of the Emirate, Mayakish is heavily defended both by natural structures like city walls and by the ever-watchful eye of the protective forces.
Districts
The Flamecut Canal, flowing from Lake Mayak, cuts the across the city, splitting it into two districts. The large district, below the canal, comprises about two thirds of the city, and is where most of the people in the city live - artisans, day laborers, merchants, and all sorts of people live here. There's four main neighborhoods in this area - The Wetsone Ward, where stilted homes, net markets and folk shrines hug the canal; Ashveil Market, where both permanent and travelling merchants sell their wares; the Veinreach, where industrious miners and gemcrafters make their shops and homes; and Coalsong Heights, where artisans, skilled workers, and cultural spaces abound.
To the north of the canal lays the noble district and the Palace of the Flame. Tiled roofs, water-fed gardens, and arcane and religious scholars brush elbows with members of the prime and extended royal family, military elite and important foreign visitors.
