Sequoia an Fhaire

APPEARANCE/PHENOTYPE
This conifer is characterized by immense vertical growth and a straight bole covered with deeply furrowed, fire-resistant bark. Needles are awl-shaped and persistent year-round, arranged spirally along small branchlets. Cones are woody, ovate, and develop over multiple years before releasing seeds.   The extensive root system is relatively shallow but wide-ranging, interlocking with neighboring trees to form a stable grove structure. This adaptation reduces susceptibility to windthrow despite immense height. The canopy intercepts precipitation and contributes to its gradual redistribution into the soil, fostering stable hydrological cycles within its habitat.
