APPEARANCE/PHENOTYPE
This willow develops a pendulous branching pattern, with long, narrow leaves borne alternately along supple stems. The foliage has a fine serrated margin, and its pale undersides create a shimmering effect in airflow. Branches are highly flexible, an adaptation to withstand seasonal flooding and wind stress without structural damage.   The bark is smooth in younger specimens, maturing into a fissured surface that supports lichen colonization. Catkins appear seasonally, producing wind-dispersed pollen that ensures cross-pollination across wide areas. Its riparian preference aligns with a strong root system adapted to waterlogged soils, stabilizing riverbanks and filtering sediments.
