APPEARANCE/PHENOTYPE
Féar Cogarach, or Whisper Grass, is a perennial grass species characterized by tall, slender stalks reaching an average height of 0.6–1.2 meters. The culms are thin yet resilient, with narrow leaves that taper to fine points, their surfaces lightly serrated. When mature, the inflorescences display feathery plumes, often pale gold to silver in coloration, swaying easily in the wind. This species grows in tight clusters, creating natural soundscapes as air passes through the stems and seed heads.   The grass demonstrates high adaptability to varied soil conditions, favoring open areas where airflow is consistent. Its biomechanical design ensures stability in high winds, while the dense root mats reduce soil erosion. Whisper Grass contributes both ecological and acoustic roles in its environment, thriving in expanses that remain relatively undisturbed by dense vegetation.
