Ilakidi Koudagaton
The Ilakidi Koudagaton is one of the legislative bodies of Kaisa. Originally, the Ilakidi was an advisory council for the Kaisan Tiporéas, the head of state and government prior to the War of the Lion. After the war, Kaisa was restructured and the Ilakidi became the legislative body of the state. They elect the Symvouli Tiporé, the executive council of Kaisa, from their ranks.
Etymology
Ilakidi Koudagaton literally translates to "Koudaga Statuary," which is the name of the building in Chypos where the body meets. The building was given its name because of the large plaza at its center, with statues of Kaisan historical figures. Eventually, the legislative body that met within the building became colloquially known by the name of its meeting place, and over time, that became the official name.Powers
The Ilakidi's primary power is electing new members to the Symvouli when one dies or a vote of no confidence is held. However, over time, they have also been given the power to draft and examine matters of law. Originally, the Ilakidi Koudagaton was the only legislative body of Kaisa, but following the Revolution of 1333, the Symvouli Tiporéas created the Synekio Laida. The two bodies technically shared legislative power, but in practice, the Ilakidi and the Symvouli retained most of the actual authority within the government, and the Synekio was able to do little more than complain.Composition
For most of its existence, the Ilakidi Koudagaton was composed of the heads of each of the Tiporé families of Kaisa. However, in the mid 1200s, the Symvouli passed a series of decrees adding new seats to the Ilakidi, belonging to prominent Kaisan academies and commerce associations.Remove these ads.
