Hallowed Lands

The Hallowed Lands of Farkellia is an integrist state controlling much of the Farkellian Archipelago and part of southeastern Eaorma. It is ruled by a cult to Ahrn-Okoth called the Eternal Flame. After the nation's formation in 1279 CE, they followed an isolationist foreign policy, but this was abandoned during the Last War, when they fought as part of the Rising Powers Pact.   Every aspect of life within the Hallowed Lands is dictated by the cult. The Hierophana, a set of tomes containing the supposed dictates of Ahrn-Okoth, is the law of the land. While there is technically no requirement to be a member of the cult, everyone must follow its rules regardless. The Hierophana lays out a system of strict hierarchies that are maintained within Hallowed Lands society, mostly extreme versions of those already existing within northern Jideran.

Structure

The Hallowed Lands is organized into what the Eternal Flame calls the "Sacred Hierarchy." At the top is the Hierophant, chosen by the Council of High Eclaria to serve for life. The Eclaria serve as the dual judicial and legislative structure of the state, with their interpretations of the Hierophana becoming part of the system of laws. The Eclaria are organized in a hierarchy by region and township. The Portas Flanbait are responsible for the everyday act of governing, both politically and spiritually. They are also arranged by region, with the Hierophant once more at the top.   The Traeclaria are responsible for enforcing the word of the Eclaria and the Hierophant.

History

The Eternal Flame was an aristocratic cult in Sorfait, prior to the Revolution of 1193. They fled following the revolution, and most ended up in Farkellia, where they bided their time and concentrated power. In 1279, the Farkellian Inferno began when the cult emerged from hiding and made a bid to seize power across the archipelago. They very nearly succeeded in taking the entire region, but they still managed to establish the Hallowed Lands in Central Farkellia.   For the next several decades, they pursued an isolationist foreign policy, working to strengthen their control over the Hallowed Lands. Their neighbors were universally antagonistic, because of the nature of their rise to power, but the part of the archipelago they controlled was rich in minerals and valuable resources, which they were able to use to build a powerful military, alongside transcendental power from the Ardenara. With the rise of the Imperial Jiderani Union, the Hallowed Lands saw an opportunity to gain an ally and move beyond defensive concerns. During the Last War, they annexed every nation of the Farkellian Archipelago except Dorn and took territory in southeastern Eaorma from Lawuusmut.
