Battle of the Vertaigne

The Battle of the Vertaigne was one of the largest offensives of the Last War, stretching across 6 months and hundreds of kilometers. It took place in the Vertaigne Mountains and Occima between the combined forces of the Republic of Kaisa and Loritania against the Imperial Jiderani Union (IJU).

Following about two years of stagnation and attrition, Kaisa and Loritania agreed to undertake a coordinated and sustained offensive across the northern front with the IJU. Through staggering loss of life and an enormous expenditure of resources, they maintained the offensive for six months of maneuvers, aerial bombardments, and armored pushes. When the dust cleared, more than a million soldiers had been killed, wounded, or captured across both sides, and the Humanist League had pushed 48 kilometers into IJU territory.

Looking back, the offensive is viewed as largely a failure, as it drained both Kaisa and Loritania of resources that became necessary during the Invasion of Lanpetia and drastically increased the war weariness of the Kaisan and Loritanian soldiers. At the time however, the offensive was seen as an unfortunate necessity, as the HL feared that they needed to strike before the IJU war machine was able to simply outlast them.
