Mages

Branch Purpose: Contain Rift phenomena, control Rift-tainted materials, and seal Breachpoints so they stay shut.
Branch Authority Notes: Mage authority includes containment veto and custody control over Rift Stone and sealed knowledge. Tempered Mages are governed first by Warden law; the order publicly claims compliance with Edicts, while internally authorizing “necessary atrocity” protocols under tribunal review.
Mandate: Contain Rift phenomena, prevent contamination from spreading, and close Breachpoints safely and permanently.
Operating Style: Procedural, measured, and relentless. Mage teams arrive with diagrams, ward-chalk, instruments, and the habit of slowing everyone down—because haste near a Breachpoint turns mistakes into disasters. They maintain ward lattices, perform diagnostics, and prepare sealing rites that require time, escorts, and strict control of the scene.
Jurisdiction & Authority: Mages can halt operations on containment grounds, control the handling and custody of Rift Stone, and authorize quarantine protocols and sealing rites. Their authority ends where immediate defense or evacuation must be executed by Warrior command in the moment.
Typical Members: System-thinkers—casters trained for geometry, logistics, ritual discipline, and post-action review. Many are used to suspicion and operate accordingly: clear procedures, clear logs, clear limits.
Outsider Contact: Non-members meet them as ward-setters and tribunal witnesses—the ones who declare calmly that the air is poisoned, the cellar is sealed, and the town must move.
  Signature Work:
  • Raising containment perimeters and stabilizing volatile sites.
  • Sealing Breachpoints and reinforcing long-term wards.
  • Testing, neutralizing, and securing Rift-tainted materials.
Branch Sign/Mark: A ward-knot/sigil detail centered on the eye motif.
