The research is led by a brilliant wizard named Terryon Terries.   A few years after its discovery though, the spell was banned by High Chancellor Kree when he witnessed an argument between Terryon and Great Yousefsalash (later known as Crazy Youif?). During the confrontation, Terryon was getting frustrated at the unpredictability of the results, was preparing to kill an elf warrior named Kori who had been reincarnated as a Goblin so that he could try again. Terryon was injured in the conflict that ensued, and when Yousefsalash tried to heal him the spell backfired somehow, killing Terryon and cursing Yousefsalash with an endless cycle of reincarnation.   Crime bosses and other wealthy individuals who weren't afraid to act within the confines of the law continued to make use of the spell, and rumours were that some individuals went so far as to use reincarnation on multiple body parts to create copies of themselves.  This process usually failed, but occasionally was able to produce... disturbing results.
