Jani Chalk
Jani Chalk is a type of Chalk used for way finding by the nomadic Jani tribes as a way to leave messages and mark paths in the road for other Jani to find and recall. It is a secret recipe said to consist of flour, water, heart and soul, however the true ingredients are left mostly unsaid, baffling historians and infuriating archivists. It is also used in Jani funeral murals and it, or a version of it, is considered safe to eat as it has been documented to be spread ontop of Traveller's Bread in funeral rites.
Significance
Jani Chalk is seen as a significant and almost sacred item amongst the Jani, included in many myths and legends such as the Last Born Jani as a wayfinding tool and a way to leave notes on popular trails. Combined with runes derived from Anicent Jani it is common sight for those on long journeys to spot the use of Jani chalk in their travels. Jani Chalk is also worked into many different cultural rites and rituals, especially those of mural making, spreading colour, or celebrating life, such as funerary rites where it is noted to be sprinkled upon the top of Traveller's Bread as a way to add rich colours to the bread.
Common amongst Jani, Rare elsewhere.
Jani Chalk is usually comprised of flour, water, and several other mystery ingredients to form a short stick that can be used as a pen or crayon for drawing or spreading murals. It is unknown to most what Jani Chalk is specifically comprised of but there are many theories to what it could be.
