Last Born Jani
Amongst those disparate souls spread across Namdia entire there lies a myth of a woman who went from being the last of her kind, to planting the seed of her hope in every person to walk the realms. A woman born in the fires of the blaze of her homeland, who forged a new home on the trails, and with every piece she learned and absorbed of the culture they tried to bury, forged a quilt of peace and prosperity that would last longer than the empire that tried to destroy her.
Today, she stands as a symbol of resistance, and of a strength, unwavering in the face of certain annihilation. A testament to spirit and soul of the Jani culture, and it's immortality amongst those who stand today. Her life's mission was to rekindle what they tried to extinguish, and preserve her people's practices, her people's voice, and her people's culture. She is known by many names, the Great Babushka, the Unbreakable Woman, the Last True Jani, but to those who know her close and know her best, she is Babs.
Summary
The Jani once held a great empire on the Southern Regions of Namdia, but in the great Heatwave of Namdia they faced a great attack that shattered the heart of the capital and left the empire in tatters. The Jani scattered everywhere, but a great number of them were caught and captured in the various skirmishes and the rush upon the capital.
Amongst the chaos, a woman gave birth to a child, and that child was smuggled out of the city. Slowly in the coming days, months, and years, the Jani were captured and executed, leaving only the small travelling crew of the capitals escapees, the mother, and child to wander the realm. It is said that each person in the crew taught Babs a different portion of her culture, and she and her mother would make a square to represent each part, they sewed it together into a great quilted poncho, that Babs wore proudly.
Historical Basis
Barbara 'Babs' Ysiri and her progeny did truly exist, although some scholars believe that some aspects may have been embellished there has been no foundational evidence to disprove the story. Barbara was born of Critere blood, to which the Southern Jani Empire was mostly comprised of, and her birthday does coincide with the fall of the empire. However, since she was the only living person left at the date of recording, there hasn't been a second person to corroborate.
Spread
The tale of the Last Born Jani spread almost alongside the spread of Barbara's children roamed the realm, and the NuJani became a dominant diaspora. Amongst the NuJani it became a reverent tale of their resolve and spirit as well as a brilliant primer to those only just learning of the empire's fall and the people's continued existence.
