Session 079: The Die Has Been Cast Report

The Wild Cards continue to explore the Yuan-Ti dungeon and find a strange dice room.

The adventurers met with **Mordenkainen's Simulacrum**, who explained that **Vecna** was attempting to restore his power using a collection of special orbs. The party discussed their options: find the **Sword of Kas**, seek the **Cats of Ultharr**, or confront **Vecna's** orb directly. They learned about a dream-protection potion that could be made from ingredients in a **Yuan-ti** temple. The group was then teleported to a Southern Jungle, where they navigated through a treacherous landscape to an ancient temple. Inside, they faced off against a **Snake-Headed Creature** and several powerful **Stone Statues** that breathed lava. The party used their combined magical and martial abilities to overcome the guardians and, with a final decisive blow from **Sas**, defeated the last statue, causing the surrounding lava to cool and turn into valuable **Obsidian**.  
 
 
   

Summary

Deep in the heart of a dense jungle, a brave party of adventurers approached an ancient temple carved in the shape of a serpent. Their quest was vital - to find special herbs that grow in lava near the Swantee Temple that would protect them from Vecna's nightmarish influence and prevent being pulled into his subdimension. Before this journey, they had received a visit from a similacrum of a Wizard who explained arrangements between wizards like Mechlin and Grognard regarding realm protection through Draconic prophecies.   As they ventured inside the temple, the defenses sprung to life, sealing them within Obsidian walls and confronting them with animated statues that attacked using lava. After defeating these guardians, Bastion and Barlo worked together to study the intricate mechanisms controlling the sealed doorway.   Their exploration led them to a mysterious white circular room containing a pedestal with a six-sided die marked with Yaanti variant of Draconic script. When Calliope touched the die with her magical glove, she learned they were no longer in the Material Plane. Rolling the die opened a doorway leading to a dark stairwell.   Descending carefully, Shadow discovered and triggered a poison trap while picking a lock, though Sas quickly cured the affliction. The party then encountered Yuan-ti guards in narrow corridors featuring hazardous lava flows. Through coordinated efforts and tactical positioning, they defeated several guards and a massive animated statue.   After the battle, they methodically searched their fallen enemies, collecting weapons, venom worth 50 Gold per vial, and blood useful for dark magic. The session ended as they began investigating four mysterious doorways in their newly cleared chamber.

    30 or 40 minutes of the game is going to be asking questions like, okay, where are we? What do we do? Yeah, what are we doing? The good news is this is actually you guys are actually at a straight forward part right now. Okay. Because. Lots of stuff has happened. And from there, it's a pretty much the mindset you guys are at is you guys were, stopped off for trade wins.
    Some other stuff happened, you guys. The plan was to go see Beth because she has something that she wants you guys to do. But she did tell you guys to gain some power for you. You guys get there anyways, so it hasn't been like a huge rush. While you guys were in trade winds, there was a couple incidents, such as, there was a, a meeting that was taking place underneath a, a church that you guys kind of came in the middle of, you guys found out about, your old friend the Mind Flayer seems to have something going on.
    All this stuff was going on, and then, You guys started having dreams. Your dreams started. It turns out that Vecna has been pulling you guys in because into a sub dimension that he has. Yeah. Like, he has a dimension out there where he's been pulling you guys in because Bastian and Calliope had tapped into, some magic wards that he had set up.
    It seems that somehow connected you guys to him, as you guys are trying to find out more information about the spell weavers, these six armed creatures. And as you guys were trying to kind of deal with this, SAS ended up doing some research and finding out that if you guys can find these herbs that grow, inside a larva, usually by the one TI, because they use it for some of the drugs they make.
    But if you can find this plant, you guys would be able to make a potion that would be able to kind of hold off the dreams for a little while until you guys can be better prepared for it. And while you guys were dealing with that, you guys had a visitor. Turns out it was a similar room of more than Kanan, a wizard from another room.
    Realm. He had told you that him and, Macklin or drug lord. And he kept also using another term, which was paradox. But he talked about how there was an arrangement between these two wizards to if anything happened in their realm and they couldn't handle it. It seems that the other one would have similar rooms that might come in and help help the other person out.
    And right now, it seems that Macklin is Mia, which think it of which you guys also have one of your professor orbs missing, which is the Captain Macklin of the, old to real world. I think there might have been a few other missing. I can't remember if you guys found out or not. Yeah, that's the one you guys knew about at this point.
    Okay. We will say that, at least for now. But what he told you was that you guys have heard about these draconic prophecies. One of the things that it turns out the draconic prophecies is actually these two wizards use some of these different prophecies to tell each other messages. If something goes wrong. He had asked you guys a couple questions.
    That kind of helped him focus in on what the problem was. And, he then told, like, come on, if you actually told you so, I will leave that for now. But what he did say was, there was some suggest he gave you guys some suggestions. Not all of them great suggestions, but he did the list.
    Put everything on the table. You guys ended up deciding that you guys would go to this one tea temple to find some of these herbs and any other information you guys could find here. Oh. Yeah. The other idea that he suggested that you guys had put on the back burner because that it might be able to help you find some way of defeating Vecna.
    And that was the cats of authority. I think I just said that wrong. I mean, I can't the cats of the Dreamland stuff. So that would be long term. But right now, the immediate would be to find these herbs. So that way you guys stop being haunted, being pulled into these nightmares and possibly having to fight Vecna unprepared.
    So he he gave you guys a bismuth crystal, which would. Then when you guys are ready, you can, call him. And he would. It would instantly transports you guys back to him. It's a one way thing, but at least it would give you guys a quick entry because he teleported you guys out to this, temple.
    You guys were found. You guys found yourselves out in the jungle. In the middle of this, hidden inside this jungle was a very old temple. In the shape of a serpent's face. Head coming out of the ground. You guys had gone into the mouth where you guys had a fun time.
    And by fun time.
    I mean, we.
    Might have seen that laugh up there. This one. Okay. So, as you guys did go in there, you guys in the finding yourselves trapped in this little room here. The door behind you had closed at some point, I believe. But you guys start investigating. The door closed, though, and because you guys started messing with the large statue in the center.
    And so then you guys found yourselves in a very serious combat. Actually, looking at you guys health, it's not that bad. Except for Barlow and Bastian. Oh, no, actually. But, Art is not doing well. But you guys found the, the center statue came to life. And then there was four other statues on the sides that were kind of drawing up some of the lava out of the ground and shooting it at you guys.
    And that was where we left you in this room here. The the doorway back out seems to still be closed. The door in front of you still is closed. Where it has a very large. It's covered with, and obsidian kind of,
    Let's say a wall of obsidian inside of the, little frame there. You can't you don't see any door markings or anything. So, whatever it is, is not opening as of right now, if that's what seems to be the entrance into the temple. Because we have had a very long time since we last played.
    What I'm going to do is I would like everybody to roll. Let's say, a d20. Whoa. What happened there?
    Whoo! Who? 18. Oh, yeah. Start with the low numbers. Now. Give me a second here. Roll 20. The side of the link out on me. It me. I'm using my new dice. Which new dice? Your sister raised me. Oh, yeah. Veronica's got a d20. Okay. To me. And, give me another roll real quick.

    And the battle kind of kind of calms down a bit. And you guys are kind of taking in your surroundings. All of you guys start noticing your, the little mark of the adventurer. Starts to glow a very slight, little bluish purple light. Those points is how many hit points you can have to either give to yourself or to any one of your fellows right now.
    Oh, yeah. The. Malo, you're hurting.
    Not so much now. Not all. All 18 points of his goes away right now. I'm going to give my two already. Or hurting.
    I have full health, so. But who? I do, I have full health. I got close, I know I wasn't doing too bad. You don't have full. But you're. I'm at 69. No. It's nice. Okay, man. I'm going to give myself the two health. Oh. How are you doing? I'm missing probably, I don't know, 20, 30% of my health full.
    Yeah, I'm about half health. Do you want my 18?
    I do, I want to, you know, take it.

So the only thing that I think that I used was that wall fire, which means that I can't do it again. Right? And, battle rest still has. He had popped his, one of the diamonds from his, fruits.
    So you have, what's it called? I think it's like an hour, isn't it? I don't remember, but I'm going to throw another diamond in there. Okay. As long as you have a spare. Got them to spare.

Well, since we don't even know how to get out yet. So if you guys do take a short rest, though. Bastian's thing, we'll we'll time out at the end of it.

    Not really. You guys have just started to look at it, and I. If I remember right, I think it was. Barlow started poking the center statue. That's what triggered it. It didn't recognize you guys as, What it what it was looking for. So then it went into protection mode and attacked. So that's pretty much what we had going on.
    I'm going to come up here and check out the obsidian wall or whatever. Go ahead and give me an investigation. Sounds good. Investigation? Yeah.

    Oh, no. So that's it's, I got a three. Barlow and SAS are investigating, and Bastian sees you guys having a hard time. He comes up and starts kind of taking, pokes and everything. The as as Bastian is kind of poking through, like, where the obsidian kind of comes and meets the rest of the wall.
    What you're noticing is that it's kind of tight in there, but it looks like it's supposed to be some type of doorway. More than likely with your big brains, though. You're able to realize that more than likely, that the control mechanism probably has something to do with the statue in the center, which I think you guys obliterated, if I remember right.
    Should I still get. I forgot your guys's exp. No, I think about it. I didn't do that. So it seems that this thing is going to be stuck in place, so you have to figure out some way of kind of getting past it, breaking it down or something. But you don't see any possible way of kind of,
    I guess triggering it from here at least. That's that's from turn and move. When it was attacking also, was it. It was facing towards the door that you guys came in. So it was facing that way. Did it ever rotate on its pedestal or anything like that? It did not seem to like it. I mean, it was able to move.
    I couldn't move off of its pedestal, but it did move around like it was. It was animating, I should say. Yeah. These statues were on them as much as the normal stationary. They were quite animated. According to the rubble. See if there's something at the base that was moving or something that just saw a lever or something that would spin one way.
    Go ahead. Give me an investigation. Do we have. I will give him help on the some of you. So you suggest over to bastion. You guys start digging through the rubble.

So as you are kind of poking around in there, You see, well, first of all, as you kind of getting in there, you do kind of also see your, your mark, kind of.
    I forgot where your mark is, but it lights up a little bit. This time I had my venture. Mark. Yeah. It it definitely went a little bit more into the purple light this time. And, as you're kind of, like, digging through the rubble and stuff, you start seeing what looks like, different types of mechanics called pieces and, like, everything from, like, little rods with little and then, like, little wheels.
    It's. I mean, it's pretty complex for you. Even with your background with, like, traps and locks. But what you can tell is that definitely was set up in some way that that statue had control over how that door operated. But right now, in its current state, it doesn't seem like you can really push anything and get it to work.
    Okay. Let bastion know that some of you can help. Maybe. I don't know if the any tinkering or kind of abilities. I'm not really sure. Don't remember, but maybe we can work it out together trying to figure it out. Yeah. Maybe make it work. I go over there and start looking at all the pieces and see if anything fits together properly.
    Or at least the one thing that is like the final piece that's broken. Like the little nub of the lever sticking out. Yeah. Whenever, like the last remaining piece that's still fixed to something, you know, permanent. That's not loose. Yeah. Go ahead and, give me an intelligence check, then. Fashion or Barlow brought it up. It's like Batman.
    The one that's messing with the gears and little helping me. You can do with advantage. So, yeah.

    You start kind of like finding some of the pieces, you see, like, see like you started, like, kind of jury rigging with, like a little bit of, a rock that looks like it kind of fit into place for something else to kind of help the next, like, piece move into place and stuff like that.
    As you do. So, you see, you hear, like, the crunching sound from the obsidian. It starts to kind of move a little bit, but as of right now, like, you're able to get it to kind of move in just a little bit, but it's still in place and, and there's still no air gaps yet.
    Go ahead and give me another intelligence check, because you're kind of working on it. We're going to do, like, a little success for you and see if maybe you're able to kind of get this thing to work right. Yeah. Let's see if there's something that can. Hold it. It's, So at this point, it's it seems like it's getting a little bit harder to kind of work, but you still feel like you're getting kind of making some success on this.
    So does it look like it's still more of, like, intelligent finesse kind of work, or would this require maybe some brute strength? Is it something needs to, like, pull up or try to make, you can you think we could try that? As he's kind of, like, digging through there. And you start suggesting maybe like, because you're seeing he's struggling on some parallels.
    So. Yeah, here's the I throw, I throw him the crowbar. Well I'm not sure you know because that's a small thing. Like I'm trying to pull something out of this little tiny small thing. Right. Like you're trying to kind of move forward on the way kind of oh dig through it. So Oh. Okay then. Yeah. Yeah.
    It's I, I wouldn't use it. Yeah. Going to give me a strength check with the advantage and you get a plus. What I say d6 if you want these so I can have, I can help with the digging. Well, actually, the D6 goes on your next roll anyways, Barlow, unless you gave it up. Oh, okay. Sorry. I guess I gave it.
    All right, then I will use it on this. Then. This is meant to be kind of like a quick little bonus. Like it's a 25, 25. All right. So at that point, it was actually the what you needed. You be able to get that, like, you can just pull out like some little, metallic rod and then like, as that kind of pulls out, like it bumps into another, like, stone piece and all of a sudden you start hearing the mechanics, you hear, like, other things moving on.
    And at that point, the obsidian door does start to slowly kind of drop a bit and then, you kind of start getting a little angry and you just, like, kind of jam, like a little part of, the rod that was kind of going all the way back towards that doorway. And as it does that the last day, obsidian just drops down and immediately opening up the passageway.
    But no effect on the front door. The front door is still jammed. Yeah, I didn't do anything to the front door. Can we see or hear anything once the door opens? As you kind of, give me a quick perception check on the Lord. If they're quick.
    24. As as the. Because this is still a fairly dark room for the most part of the. Except it's kind of being the room you guys are in. It's kind of being lit up by the, the four little areas of, Lava, lava. And as you kind of stare down the, in through the doorway, what you see is a, stark white room.
    That's the light kind of goes in there a bit, but it's just a it looks like a small round room with a little pedestal in the center.

    You know, all that love and all that love for the jungle areas. It's probably also the. As you guys enter the next room. I don't have enough for it, but, what's your state of the mind as you guys enter this, 2520? Circular room. And as you guys enter the room you see in the center, there's a, little white pedestal that comes up and, they're, as the last one of you guys enters the room, the doorway behind you closes.
    But it's this time. It's weird because it's not even obsidian. Now. In this room, it's just a white circular room with a little pedestal in the center. And on this, on top of that, you see a little cube.
    A little cube, do we recognize the cube? As you take a look at the cube, it looks like a little, white white dice. It's a little six sided dice. It looks like, it could be made of bone or ivory or. You're not really sure at this point.
    How big is it? It's just a size of a standard D6. Oh. This morning. Okay. And does it does it have numbers on the sides? Is it an actual, effect? It seems to have, symbols of some sort. But you're not sure what they are. Sorry. Barlow asked if it was solid white. Would be a solid weight.
    All the white. Oh, white? Yeah. I'm going to go over on color. Okay. I'm going to go over and look to see if I recognize any of the writing. It has kind of, in the writing it looks draconic.

    Does it look like I do I speak draconic, who does? Shadow? Shadow. Sinister conic. But does he write it? So are you going to take a look at it through? Yeah. Do you pick it up? No. Okay. Just looking at this on this vessel. Yep. Because I learned in the last room when Barlow poked it, things happened.
    Yeah. It's happened. Couldn't give me give me an investigation or perception or whatever you think might work on this. Well, my perception score is way better. Okay, so I'm going to do that because it's with advantage.
    2424 you started kind of staring at it. You're looking around from different sides. What you start to notice is that it's almost like, somebody tried to I mean, there's a lot of ways you can perceive this, but it looks like they're meant to be kind of draconic symbols, but there's, like, little nuances that makes it feel a little bit off, to the point that they kind of resemble the draconic numbers.
    So as you're kind of looking at it, you see on the top, you see a, very close to the draconic number one, but not exact, but there's like little nuances about it. But taken in context, you can see the one, the three, the five, the four and the two. As you're kind of looking at it.
    So it's not exactly draconic numbers, but close does it looks like it's like a stylized writing to make it look different, or is it look like it was a language that's very, very similar to draconic? Let me see. Here, give me a second here.

    So it's a round pedestal. Round walls. No doorway. Now it goes up about 40ft up into the air. So it's like a cylinder and everything is just white. Not even. And even though it's just perfectly any bark or anything on the actual pedestal or around the base. No, it's a very simple pedestal. In fact, it's just kind of like a round kind of cylinder in the center with the little, cube on the top.
    Which exists in this place, those windows, you don't see any exit or doors. So that's the weird thing that as you guys have kind of entered the kind of doorway closed behind you and it's no longer obsidian. It's whatever this white surface with.     Creases, I guess you would see would be the corners and the the where the floor meets the wall and where the roof meets the wall. Otherwise, it's perfectly. And it appears to be, some sort of stone like material. Like a marble or quartz or something, but, a little bit, like a, like a softer texture almost to it.
    So it's not like it's hard and solid, but. Yeah, there's like, there's some weird quality about it. It's honestly, it seems like it's like a material that you've never really seen before.     It's almost like instantly as it kind of opens you kind of. It's almost like, almost like the partner looking at his wife. But as you kind of drift, you're starting the it's no longer see the white anymore. It's kind of a weird, eerie kind of presence as now you just have the, you can see the obsidian doorway behind you, and you can see in front of you a, doorway just like a room.
    It's, where I look for just around round doorway, with a, stairwell that goes down.

And then it also kind of chips out some of the wood there, as it kind of breaks off, actually some of the wood that's there. I guess you would also see a little bit of light kind of poking through, as you've kind of the same orangish glow that you've seen before.
