Personal history
Liam Williams was born into a high-functioning, stable household entrenched in the inner workings of the Syndicate. His father served as a ministrant, his mother an accountant—both loyal cogs in the great corporate machine. As the eldest of three, Liam grew up balancing the expectations of being a dependable role model with the thrill of being a mischievous instigator. His slightly younger sister kept him sharp with biting wit and fierce rivalry, while his baby sister idolized him—though even that affection was layered with the chaos of siblinghood.
From an early age, Liam showed a talent for charm and manipulation, effortlessly talking his way out of (and into) trouble. Recognizing his sharp mind and persuasive flair, he was awarded a prestigious education grant. He seized the opportunity, delving into human psychology, interpersonal influence, and even learning Russian to widen his appeal and professional network.
Liam eventually joined the Town Watch, recruited quickly thanks to his wit, demeanor, and presence. While his charisma earned him popularity, his smooth ascent didn’t sit well with everyone. Chief among the aggrieved was Alastar Edmund Vogt, a fellow recruit with a permanently sour expression and a personal vendetta. Liam has no idea what exactly triggered Alastar’s obsession, but their antagonism simmers just below the surface—an unresolved grudge destined to boil over. Fortunately, Alastar insists on handling the matter himself, refusing to bring others into it... for now.
More trouble came in the form of an ex-lover—Chef Lorna Pollie Branson—whose relationship with Liam ended in heartbreak and bruised pride. She returned unexpectedly, backed by a small gang and a plan to ruin his life. Liam suspects she’s lashing out rather than seeking justice, but that doesn’t make her any less dangerous.
Currently, Liam is entangled in a complicated relationship with his Scribe mentor, Nissa Kennard. Nissa admires his charm and finds him utterly captivating, and while Liam still feels a connection, he’s starting to wonder whether her ties to her mother—Winfrith Kennard, head of the Board of Hope—make the relationship more liability than love.
In his teenage years, Liam contracted a severe case of influenza that nearly killed him. Though he recovered, he was left with lingering effects, including a mild but chronic cough—a constant, irritating reminder of his vulnerability.
Scribe Ellen Anne Cosima, a sharp-eyed observer within the ranks, has developed a quiet but intense interest in Liam. She’s in love with Nissa and sees Liam as a rival, her attention laced with resentment and jealousy.
Liam’s life is peppered with friendships and connections that help keep him grounded. He bonded with Jaxon, a fellow Town Watch recruit, over shared assignments and tedious patrols. He also maintains the financial records for Sweet Seams, a local tailor shop, and has grown close to its savvy, no-nonsense owner, Esmeralda Marleen Post.
A darker thread winds through his recent past: Liam struck a bargain with Levi, a power broker within the Syndicate, to protect his father after a misstep that angered a Pontiff. Now, Liam owes Levi a favor—a debt he knows will be called in when it hurts most.
Finally, he’s struck up a curious friendship with Forseti Rom, an android he met through mutual friends. Liam finds himself fascinated by Forseti’s perspective, intrigued by the idea of understanding someone so entirely unlike himself.
