Civilization is Our Only Hope
Valnietists believe that if the wilderness is really that terrible (monsters, after all), then Therroanism and its values on the natural world shouldn't be embraced. Chaos is what leads to criminals, disorder, and destruction, so the freedom-based values of Seltorianism are lies, too. So, what should we do? Embrace the Calmkin! They worship the four lawful Divines, including Valniet. They think that strong walls and good law enforcement can lead to the most hard-working society, even if it means adhering to a strict schedule on what to do every day and being a serf if you're poor. Ugolt, the god of orcs and strategy, tried to join the pantheon but was denounced and called a warmonger by the Divines. Nevertheless, some Valnietists still worship him. The dangers and the not-so-fertile land of northern Ashtree are what cause it to be popular there, especially in the Viscounty of Wildpeak and the County of Hallowgrave. The values here apply much more to miners and fishermen than farmers and merchants, though the Viscounty of Stormside and its town are mainly Seltorians, strangely enough. They pray only to Calmkin and lesser deities that follow their principles.
