Eastern Cluster
The islands of the Eastern Cluster were sparsely populated by the Tuvain, nomadic tribes who moved from island to island regularly so as not to deplete their resources. That changed when the Duranti Empire found the Golden Path high in the mountains of Nexus to Thousand Seas. They suffused the Eastern Cluster with plantations and began logging the already precarious islands.
Geography
The Eastern cluster was an old mountain range before the inundation. After the inundation it has continued to wear away. They are typically low lying and rely on sandbars and reef systems to protect them from southerly storm surges.
Politics
Dominated by the Duranti Empire before the Third Nexus War, the empire was pushing back the Tuvain claiming that their lands were uncultivated and therefor claimable. The Tuvain pushed back and a series of small wars for territory ensued. That changed with the Third Nexus War. The Empire could not afford the distraction of a colonial war. So a hasty peace was brokered that was generally in the Tuvain's favor without ceding any Duranti Colonies.
Since the Nexus Accords, the situation has become volatile. While the Tuvain have treaty rights to migrate from island to island, many of their traditional lands are home to Duranti Colonies. As well, because they don't have a set territory they don't have any magestures to represent them in the Protectorate Council. While the majority Islander council is sympathetic to their cause, the Duranti Colonies are founding members and have outsized privileges under the founding treaties. Privileges that they maintained after the empire withdrew.
