Eras of Daënfel
ince the Creation of Daënfel, many eras have come and gone in this world, each leaving their distinct mark on its people and history. As the Company of the Broken Banner build their legacy and spread their influence across the continent, their members hear tell of an 'Age of Prophecy' that is whispered to be witnessed soon by all who call this place home. Elder Mythos Following the creation of the world, the Dagnir Sen and the rest of the Avanís Pantheon's first creations roamed this world as the caretakers of Daënfel. The Gods walked the earth amongst their creations and bathed them in golden light and song. The strongest of their creations - the Dragons and Giants - became embroiled in conflict for the prideful seat as the Avanís's chosen. As this conflict escalated, the Avanís chose mankind as their champions. The two species, spurned by the Pantheon, retreated to the harsh heights of the Rhakhis Peaks where mankind could not tread, and have waged war with eachother amongst the mountains ever since. Little is remembered from this time, with most of the surviving texts being part of the religious scripture of The Dawning Empire's worship to the Avanís Pantheon, centralized within the libraries of cities such as Hope and Trinity. Age of Legend Some thousand years ago, with the rise and expansion of The Kingdom of Eá-galwen, the world lived through an era of heroes and stories that still breathe fire into the hearts of Daënfel's people today. As mankind began to leave its mark on this world civilization swept across the continent, causing frictions with the Fae Kingdoms and the other Denizens of Daënfel who lived here. The Kingdom of Eá-galwen, which was led from the great city of Carrag Nuine, constructed many wonderous structures, guided by the hands of The Mason. Remembering the charge left to the Dagnir Sen, the Galweni people brokered peace for all of the races of Daënfel, taking on the responsibility of stewardship for this land and its many inhabitants. The Orcs swept through the hills and mountains of the Lower Rhakhis building great holds that were constantly embroiled in conflict with the lands of Man. Avalon, led by the ingenuity of the gnomes, surpassed what was thought to be possible by mankind. Meanwhile Helias was established and ruled by dwarven slavers who struck fear along the Steppe's coastline communities of elven druids and halfling herders, forever opposed to Eá-galwen. This era concluded with Avlar's conquest, his slaying of the goddess Death and the destruction of Avalon. These events rocked this world to its core and reset mortalkind's reckoning of time as we know it, with all events predating Avlar's reign being colloquially referred to as "the times before." The Great Displacement The Breach plunged this world into an era of darkness and chaos, as society buckled from the relentless, bloodthirsty assaults by monsters of The Maw who swarmed to the surface from the endless Depths Below. Much of the history of Daënfel was lost during this time, having a huge impact on the world's understanding of its history. No longer did the Gods walk amongst their creations, with one of their own slain by one of their creations, choosing to retreat to whatever domain it is that they reside in. Led by noble lines clinging to power, the remnants of civilization struggled to maintain order in a world full of chaos, and society collapsed. Each city and its people were largely left to fend for themselves, with greed and desperation reigning supreme. During these decades of bloodshed and suffering, it was the common man that banded together to form powerful organizations, deposing the nobles of what power they still had and leading the people in their survival. Even as The Green Knight blessed the chosen Davistan line at Ban Elsir and the Dawning Empire was formed, the history books felt the scars of a land completely rocked by the horrors its people had faced for over half a century. The Dawning (Current Era) Humanity once again rose from the fires of destruction and was born anew under the rule of the first Davistan Emperor and his Dawning Empire, which united the cities and towns of the world that had been disconnected for decades under one fiery banner. The capital of this new Empire, Hope, the city of Dawn, was constructed at the isle of Ban Elsir to watch over the great doors of The Maw that had been shut by Ser Ecbert. Once again the roads became safe to travel, people could travel across Daënfel and it seemed like the world had left behind its history of death and destruction. That was, until, the first ships of The Orodáni Federation were spotted off the coast of the free city of Helias soon thereafter, resulting in two bloody wars that have been fought across the 250 years since the founding of the Empire. Much of society as it is known today has been formed in these last two centuries, and while much of the past remains obscured to this world's people, it is clear that time moves ever onward at an ever increasing rate. The powerful organizations that were born from desperation in a time of need now rule much of the content, wielding power not seen since the height of Eá-galwen. What fate awaits the world of Daënfel; its Gods distant, its lands unsafe and its people forgotten their charge? It has been over 300 years since Avlar ascended to godhood and with the final words of the last High Prelate of the Astronomer, Lavernus, whispers speak of an 'Age of Prophecy' that lays on the horizon for this world.
