Great Wyrms
arlier than all of the creations and civilisations of Mankind, stories of the regal Dragon have existed for millenia in this world. The strongest of The Avanís Pantheon's creations, these creatures are rarely seen outside of the Rhakhis Peaks, and they have long been represented in the iconography and legends of Man. Incredibly intelligent, the Great Wyrms are sentient creatures that are the apex predators of Daënfel. The only beings said to challenge their might are the Giant-kin - the other major cultural group who call the Rhakhis home. Their conflicts are said to be monumental - crashes of thunder bolts and flame breath echoing through the peaks during a storm. Dragons come in many shapes and sizes, and they have their own unique culture. Field guides for adventurers tell of a distinction between the 'evil' chromatic and 'good' metallic dragons, however tales of bargains gone wrong or dragon alliances relate to both of the colour-types present in this world. Notable to all the different kinds of dragons; each has a lair, and they are all fiercely defensive of their domain. Some ancient Galweni tales speak of Wyrm-riders - Men who befriended the colossal beings and rode on their backs to cross great distances and in times of conflict. These tales speak not of dragon pets but of dragon allies, with alliances of friendship forming the backbone of this relationship. Now, it is a rare day indeed when someone sights one of these mythical beings. The Northmen of the Unbound Lands speak of smaller drakes often flying in the lower foothills of the Rhakhis, and older adventurers tell tales of dragons flying over the ruins of Avalon, The Lost City.
