Espuna
Hardy and wise, the Espuna are the masters and protectors of Orden, and have been since before the first Sueviran explorers arrived millennia ago. Despite their variety of forms, Espuna as a whole raise the good of the community above the good of the individual, they do the work the collective need them to do, and they do it well. Fiercely loyal and wholly devoted, Espuna are the definition of “a sum greater than its parts.”
Basic Information
Anatomy
At an anatomic level, Espuna are largely the same as the species they resemble with the exception of the Aniwa and Quetzal subspecies being mammalian in nature. Their morphology is entirely dependent on their subspecies.
That being said, Espuna have several factors linking them together.
Despite their subrace, they all have roughly the same height, weight, and reproductive means. In addition, they all have a specific type of nervous cell which provides extra sensitivity and a larger degree of stimulus to a specific part of the body. This body part varies based off of subspecies and is visible as a network of silvery veins. This specialized nervous cell also insulates the body against shocks and blows.
Biological Traits
shock-absorbent nervous system.
Genetics and Reproduction
Espuna are, despite some of their apperance, mammalian. They reproduce sexually, giving birth to live young after a gestational period of about four months. They reach maturity at the age of 8, and retain fertility until their mid 60s.
Growth Rate & Stages
Espuna reach maturity at the age of 8 and reach their physical peak at about 15 years of age. This peak, unlike with other races, lasts long into its life, with signs of age not appearing until around 60 when the females go through menopause. After around 70 years of age, their physical abilities decline rapidly. Most Espuna can live to be about 80-85 years of age.
Ecology and Habitats
Espuna are native to the rolling prairies of coastal Orden, where they would hunt, farm, and live as harmoniously with nature as possible.
Due to their nature, they kept to small tribal units who would either befriend or attack neighbors on what seemed to be a whim.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Espuna are omnivorous and require a diet of red meat, fruits and leafy vegetables in order to survive. In addition to this, Espuna supplement their diet with small doses of copper, ingested as finite flakes or grit mixed in with their food. Their stomachs are specially designed to break the metal down, which helps keep their specialized nerve cells running.
