Tadai

The Roadrunner-like Tadai are built to move and react. Although they resemble birds, the Tadai are flightless, but what they lack in flight capabilities, they gain in sheer speed. Whether they find themselves in the conductor’s seat of a Motolisk, riding a slithering Basilisk through the wastes, or simply sprinting around cities and camps, Tadai are at home when they the wind is in their face.

Anatomy

The Tadai borrow a few factors from the birds they resemble. In addition to the zygodactyl feet, the Tadai possess hollow bones and powerful leg muscles which allows them to move incredibly quickly. Their bodies are covered in a protective layer of feathers and a short, sharp beak adorns their face.

Tadai Traits

Ability Score Increase: Your Dexterity Score increases by 2. Speed: Tadai have a base speed of 40 feet. Bounding Leap Tadai can make a running jump after just 5 feet rather than 10 feet, in addition, your long jump and high jump distance is doubled. Split-Second Reflexes: Tadai have almost supernaturally swift reflexes. You may choose to reroll any one Dex based ability check, saving throw, or initiative roll. You must do this before the DM has revealed the result of the first roll and you must use the second roll. You cannot use this feature again until after completing a short or long rest. Spirit of the Crossed: Due to their x-shaped feet, tracking a Tadai on foot is incredibly difficult. Any checks made to evade pursuit have advantage, and any checks to track a Tadai have disadvantage. This extends to any creature traveling with a Tadai as well.

Body Tint, Colouring and Marking

Tadai bodies are covered with a layer of black and brown feathers, streaked with white. Their legs are long and powerful, covered in a tough scaly skin whose dark grey coloring matches their long, narrow beak. Their legs end in a pair of large, distinctive zygodactyl feet. Both their legs and their feet are crisscrossed with a network of silvery veins. They have a short crest of feathers of silvery feathers on their head.
