Ectoplasm
"I don't like Ectoplasm. It's sticky, gooey and smelly. And it gets everywere. Truly a pain to clean without some salt, i'll tell ya..."Ectoplasm is a mysterious and unique substance found in large quantities within the Etherial dimension, as well as in the physical world, produced there as a byproduct of various interactions with spiritual entities.
Properties
Material Characteristics
Ectoplasm is a slimy and viscous liquid substance, which is also slightly translucent. It can have multiple colours depending on it's source. When it is produced by Necromancers or spirits, it is blue. When instead it is produced by ghosts or Demons, it takes on a more turquoise or green colour.
Physical & Chemical Properties
Every kind of ectoplasm, whether it comes from a Necromancer or a demon, can be easily disolved by simply sprinkling a small quantity of salt on it, which will cause it to melt away as if it were ice. Both blue and green ectoplasm also naturaly contains a lot of wild mana, with the green kind generaly being more rich in mana than any other colour. Ectoplasm is also slightly corrosive to organic material like wood, cloth and flesh when they are exposed to it for a long time. It can also quickly disolve Silver Grass, but doesn't prevent it regrowing.
Origin & Source
Ectoplasm is a product which comes from the interaction of any kind of spiritual beings, like the phamtom form of Necromancers, spirits of humans or animals, ghosts and demons, with physical objects. However, the reason as to why it is produced at all remains a mystery to everyone, including Necromancers.
What is more mysterious is it's presence in the Ether since, as far as we know, the Ether is not a truly physical plane, yet large amounts of ectoplasm can be found here, usualy in the form of pools some as large as lakes. Many spirits live here, but with no physical objects to bumb into, it can't have been produced from them. And so the question must be asked: How did all of this ectoplasm appear?
Life & Expiration
When left alone, Ectoplasm will very slowly evaporates into the air, leaving behind only a very thin crystaline deposite on the surface it was on, which some scholars have noted starkly resembles Lycanite crystals, raising questions as to the origin of those gems in the world.

This is because unlike normal clothing, spirit clothe are able to adapt to the changing bodies of Shapeshifters, the journey through the Ether of Soulstriders, or to Necromancers shifting into their phantom form.
Trade
Ectoplasm is a relatively difficult material to obtain, but also one with very useful propreties when used correctly. As such, it is very valuable. Necromancers can make a confortable living by simply producing enough of it and selling it directy to a spirit clothe tailor.
Storage
To prevent the liquid from evaporating, ectoplasm must be kept in wax-sealed barrels to prevent contact with air. The rate of evaporation is also faster in high temperatures, and so it must also be kept in a cool environment.
