Spirit Clothes

Spirit clothing is a type of clothing that is able to change shape or disappear with its wearer. It is a very popular item with some Shapeshifters and it is extensively used with by Necromancers as well as Soulstriders.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

The fabric, when dipped into ectoplasm, becomes reactive to a Soulmage's etherial magic. Each individual fiber that make up the piece of clothing is able to radicaly change their shape to fit the wearer, become semi-solid, or be worn in the Ether. It can even be temporarely transfered into the Ether via one's etherial link.

Necromancers

This allows Necromancers to wear it without worry that if they shift into their phantom forms, they will loose their clothes, as these will instead stay on them and become phantom-like as well.

Shapeshifters

It also allows Shapeshifters to wear normal human-looking clothes, without the worry of constantly loosing them when they transform. It also allows them to switch between a human and animal form while staying either fully clothed or not, as the clothes will be "stored" along with their human form.

Soulstriders

Finaly, Soulstrider are able to wear these clothes as these will teleport with them without any problem. Many soulstriders in Arros and Enaskia work as Coursier, and their work clothes and accessories are all made of Spirit clothes.

Manufacturing process

To make spirit clothes, one must first get their hands on ectoplasm. Most shops and boutiques run by Necromancers, which are rare in most regions, sell ectoplasm. Any kind will do, but spirit ectoplasm, also known as blue ectoplasm, has been found to be the most efficient.   After getting ectoplasm, the most tedious task begins. Linen, cotton or hemp strings must be dipped into a mixture of 30% pure ectoplasm and 70% hot waters (100% ectoplasm will corrode the materials). Each material must stay in the mixture for a months. When the process is complete, they should be rinced with cold water.   If the strings retain a blue glow in the dark after all that, then they are ready to be sown into spirit clothing. However, it is important to note that for harder and tougher clothing materials, such as leather, a full ectoplasm bath may be needed, otherwise they may not aquire the nessessary caracteriscs.

History

Spirit clothing are an old invention, dating back to the early years of the Second Age. This technonogy actualy comes from the Kingdom of Nan-Tao, which is a large country in eastern Osian Osian that has a large population of Necromancers. Spirit clothing was extremely in demand during the Esnian Empire, as they used large amounts of Shapeshifters in their armies. In the Confederation of Ru'mensh, despite them having the most amount of shapeshifters per capita of any nations in Arros, they have historicaly been slow to adapt this techonoly, as the local culture doesn't favour them. Finaly, with the founding and spread of the Continental Guild of Coursiers in Arros, Soulstrider began wearing spirit clothes to do their commutes.

Raw materials & Components
Spirit clothes and made of much the same base materials that a normal piece of clothing would be, those being wool, Linen, and cotton. One difference is that they can't include metals unless it too has been forged with ectoplasm, which is a rare occurence.   The second ingredient is of course ectoplasm. It can only be obtain from two sources. Ghosts and spirits, and Necromancers. While procuring ectoplasm from necromancers is the safest, it isn't as efficient as spirit, and it can be purchased at any necromancer store, but it is very expansive.
