Overview

Tidewake marks the symbolic rebirth of the sea, when currents stir from their winter slumber and the first light filters through the deep. This three-day celebration unites reef-dwellers, trench-folk, and nomadic pods in joyful harmony, as the oceans begin a new life cycle.   For many, it is the spiritual new year, rooted in ancestry, community, and the promise of the next generation. Newborns are welcomed. Ancestors are remembered. And all of Caemothas takes a breath to start again.

Traditions & Rituals

Kelp-Wrap Anointments

Infants and hatchlings are wrapped in sacred strands of moonblessed kelp, harvested by tide-shamans under lunar light. Elders whisper the child’s true name into the wrappings to bind them to the ocean’s eternal memory.

Lantern-Fish Release

At twilight on the second day, glowing fish are released from coral baskets, bearing charms tied to family history and future hopes. It’s believed they carry ancestral blessings along oceanic ley-lines to the Great Callers.

Whispered Tide Blessings

On the final day, entire communities gather at shorelines or reef-shrines to whisper blessings into the water. These whispered words ride the tide to bless all new life, wherever it may drift.

Ancestral Shell Chant

Chelonu and Merfolk families play memory-shells—conch flutes passed down generations—believed to harmonize with the deep and awaken sleeping spirits of the lineage.

Tidebirth Ceremonies

Held in large cities like Lagicrus or Rika, these public blessings celebrate not only children, but first-time warriors, unions, and new journeys. A sacred moment of public rebirth.

Cultural Perspectives

Neluvari: Conduct psionic dream-weaving to attune their minds with the rhythms of new life.
Chelonari: The eldest clan member performs name-giving ceremonies within living coral groves.
Merfolk: Join in massive ocean-wide choruses that resonate across trench and tide.
Selkies: Shed a symbolic “skin” during the holiday, embracing renewal and change.
