Overview

As the veil between light and abyss begins to thin late in Drowsecall, it is said that things from the Trench Below stir. Abysswatch Eve is both a festival and a warning—one night of shared fire, courage, and vigilance before the cold season fully sets in.

Traditions & Rituals

Lightbearing Processions

Lines of trench-dwellers and surface folk carry glowing coral braziers, forming protective circuits around vulnerable city borders and ruins. It is believed the moving flame confuses abyssal spirits.

Effigy Burnings

Nightmare effigies—crafted from kelp, coralbone, and voidwood—are burned or sunk into deep rifts. Each effigy represents a fear to be faced and cast away.

Bioluminescent Warding Tattoos

Temporary sigils of light-ink are painted across skin, shells, or armor. These markings glow softly in the dark and are thought to ward off spiritual and psychic attacks.

Cultural Perspectives

Monodon: Swim in silence through trench passes to test their spirit.
Cheloni: Meditate in deep caverns, flanked by braziers carved from volcanic glass.
Zharakai: Channel abyssal echoes into protective runes, binding fear into inked talismans.

Abysswatch Quotes
