Bloody Chapel Incident

As seen in

The Conflict

Prelude

Strife had long simmered in the Calibridge Family, centered on the rivalry between brothers Teige and Thaddeus. When Thaddeus chose to be a Priest, Teige saw it as betrayal — a surrender of family strength to the doctrines of Eternal Harmony. Their father’s death widened the rift, leaving Teige bitter and domineering. When Thaddeus continued to hold Harmony rites without his sanction, Teige’s rage boiled over. On 11 Crimsonfall 1611 AR, he stormed the family chapel during a ceremony.

Outcome

The confrontation exploded into slaughter. Teige’s fury was unescapable. By the end, the chapel floor was slick with the blood of family, kin, and faithful alike. Teige alone remained alive among the dead. The sanctuary of Calibridge Citadel was desecrated, its walls forever marked by fratricide.

Aftermath

[The massacre shattered the Calibridge family. Survivors whispered of curses born from spilled kin-blood, and many refused to enter the chapel again. Generations grew under the shadow of the slaughter, burdened with whispers of madness, betrayal, and haunting. What once had been a sacred place of Eternal Harmony became a grim reminder of blood turned against blood.

Historical Significance

Legacy

The Bloody Chapel Incident altered the Calibridge line irrevocably, its memory carried as both shame and warning. Some claimed to hear voices in the desecrated chapel, echoes of Thaddeus’s prayers cut short, or Teige’s wrath still burning. The tragedy endured as a cautionary tale across Caelum Prime, warning of pride, envy, and the peril of family consumed by strife.

In Literature

The incident has appeared in countless histories and fictionalized retellings. Its most notable reimagining is in Leaping into Blood: A Lyra Whitesmith Mystery, where its ghosts still stalk the living.

I'm left wondering how much of this is real and how much is myth. Every historian knows that myths are based on a historical event, at least to some small degree. I'm sure that this incident was blown up for the sake of the novel to make it more entertaining to read.
