New World Trading Company

Structure

The organisation can be split into 2 main sections: The Company Proper and the Navy.   The Company Proper is the core of the organisation, negotiating trade deals, ordering shipments, the sort of things youd expect from a trading company.   The Navy began as an inevitable consequence of trading in the New World - any ship sailing in that sea is bound to be attacked by monsters, pirates or both. So the fledgling NWTC hired mercenaries to guard their ships. Over time, these mercenaries got very good at their jobs, and as piracy became more prominent, nations in the new world began to pay The Company for their mercenaries' services. This snowballed until eventually, what was once mercenaries became a full on private military, and the strongest navy in the world.   Both sections of the Company are presided over by the Court of Directors, who can trace their ancestry back to the company's founders.   The Navy, true to its name, has a strict military hierarchy, presided over by the Grand Admiral, who commands the Admirals of the Fleet, who command the Chair Admirals, who command captains, etc.   Ranks go Grand Admiral -> Fleet Admiral -> Commodore -> Warrant Officer -> Commander -> Captain -> Lieutenenant -> Seaman   Ships are usually commanded by Captains, small groups of ships or forts by Commanders, sections of ocean by Warrant Officer, Fleets controlled by a Commodore, Fleet Admirals have mastery of large territories including bases and fleets, all under the direct order of the Grand Admiral.   The Company Proper is ran in a similar strict hierarchical structure.

Culture

The Company sees itself as having risen far above the station of a normal trading company, and employees believe that they are the thin line between order and the world falling into chaos at the hands of pirates. They present themselves as the arbiters of absolute justice, and the higher up the chain of command you go, the more zealous this belief becomes.   They highly value their public perception, going out of their way to be seen as noble and heroic protectors, all the whilst extorting as much money out of their clients and citizens as much as possible, for the greater good, of course.

Public Agenda

Publicly, the NWTC is all about making the New World an inhabitable and peaceful place for all. Their trade ships deliver supplies to struggling New World colonies and their fleet protects those colonies from the many evils of the world. They are righteous and have the gods on their side, and will not stop until evil is rooted out and destroyed.

Assets

Holding a complete monopoly over the New World, the NWTC's wealth and power compares to, and in many cases vastly dwarves, that of old world nations. Rumours say the pockets of its richest members run deeper than the ocean itself. If an island isnt uo for negotiating a deal, it is said the Company will simply buy the island.   Their military forces match these deep pockets. It boasts tens of thousands of employees and hundreds of battleships. Its mages and researchers have practically limitless research funds, and it has the largest stockpile of magic weapon and Forgotten Age relics of any organisation, rivaled only by the Pirate Lords.

History

Much of the Company's history is shrouded in mystery, as it was initially formed in the Forgotten Age. What is known is that several wealthy families from across the Old World came together to found it, and that by the time the Age of Discovery began, its hq on Pangea was already built.
