The King's Tourney of 197
This was the tourney held by King Daemon Blackfyre in the city of King's Landing a few months after his coronation to celebrate his crowning, the end of the war and the unification of Westeros under Blackfyre rule. Lords from all of the Seven Kingdoms attended either to compete or merely to participate in the festivities. The three main events of the competition were, the Archery competition, the Melee and the Jousting.
Some of the more impressive bouts were Fireball versus the young Ser Jaime Lannister the heir of Casterly Rock, Fireball versus Ser Redrose and the battle between two underdogs in their own different ways, Otho Tentowers, the commoner merchant and Lady Shana Canaris a dornish noblewoman who was the only female taking part in the competition.
The Archery
The first of the three main events the archery competition pitted some of the greatest marksmen in the realm against one another, the rules were simple, with each contestant having to hit five targets with five arrows, and points being assigned according to how accurate each arrow was. The event was won by a mystery participant who refused to reveal his name and left before collecting his prize, the first runner up was Ser Florian Fossoway who exceeded expectations by beating older and more experienced marksmen, and in third place was a smallfolk by the name of Angus. According to some rumours after the competition ended the winner of the contest was imprisoned, but such claims are unconfirmed as of yet.The Melee
The second and bloodiest event to be hosted was the melee, where high lords and knights fought one another for honour, glory and a bag filled with dragons, the combatants fought with blunted weapons as to avoid accidental deaths or attempts at murder disguised as such, despite this the event did not lack for blood or broken bones which pleased the assembled crowd, both noble and lowborn, the eventual winner of the contest was Ser Ridgemont Redrose who defeated not only the famously skilled knight Ser Quentyn "Fireball" Ball of the King's Guard, but also Otho Tentowers a commoner who was something of a favourite of the crowd due to his humble origins. The second place of the competition went to Lord Davos Baratheon of Storm's End and the third place was claimed by Fireball himself. The Joust
The main and most expected event was the joust, with the better part of the chivalry of the kingdom taking part in one way or another, every region save the Iron Islands was represented by knights and lords in the competition, the rules were simple, the winner was to be either the one to knock the adversary of his horse, while staying on his own saddle, or if none of them were able to dismount the other on three passes the judges would decide a victor by considering the skill and horsemanship of both contestants, most of the matches ended up with one of the two contestants unhorsed, but two bouts had their results decided by judges one between the eventual champion Ser Ridgemont Redrose and Marak Stane, the Boar knight, and a particular contentious match between Ser Baelor Silvaryen and Lord Aegor Bracken of Stone Hedge, where the judges gave the victory to Bracken and caused much discussion on whether that was or not the right decision, according to some Lord Bracken was attacked by unsatisfied viewers, but others claim Lord Bracken simply abandoned the competition because he also disagreed with the decision from the judges. The obvious favourites of the peasantry were Otho Tentowers for his humble birth and Lord Leo "Longthorn" Tyrell, but both men were unhorsed by the eventual champion Ser Redrose, with Otho suffering nasty wounds that put him in a unconscious state for days. The winner of the Joust was Ser Redrose with the runners up being Leo Tyrell and Bleddyn Wynne. The tradition of naming a lady as the Queen of Love and Beauty did not happen right after the end of the joust, for at the moment the crown was to be given Ser Redrose was interrupted by an angry northern Lord that demanded blood for the near death of Otho, Lord Tyrell intervened resulting in grave injuries to both Tyrell and Lord Codd, and a most uncommon ending to the event. Later however Ser Redrose crowned Lady Canaris as his Queen of Love and Beauty.Remove these ads. Join the Worldbuilders Guild
