Ikitur (ick-it-uhr)

To the northwest of the continent of Ayndrinor lies a large island dominated by a central mountain range and vast northern tundra. The island also sports thick, heavy woods in the east - between the mountains and the sea - and fertile plains along the south and west coasts. Much of the water surrounding the island is perpetually cold, with the Frozen Strait off the east coast only accessible by ship for about two months out of the year - without heavy icebreaker ships that are few in number and cumbersome to construct. The Yaegar Ocean on the southern and western sides of the island is more temperate but still frigid; it ices over completely only in the depths of winter, and only then in the northern reaches. The waters near Gorville are typically free of ice year-round except the occasional floating berg that wanders close to land from deeper in the ocean.   Legend has it that the island of Ikitur was inhabited in the early days of the world exclusively by dragons, of most colors excluding the desert-loving blue and brass. As these dragons grew, they began to fight with each other constantly, seeking to amass more territory and glory than all other dragons. Occasionally, some of these dragons flew off to the east to terrorize people on mainland Ayndrinor, tired of competing for relatively little treasure and renown on a mostly desolate island. Over time, the numbers of these dragons began to dwindle, as many died from combat or old age and left few offspring to carry on their tyranny. No one is quite sure when or how, but at some point the dragons on Ikitur began to produce the race of dragonborn that have inherited many of the ancient dragons' characteristics. Dragonborn evolved or came into being elsewhere in the world where dragons once reigned supreme, but nowhere is their race more populous and concentrated than the island of Ikitur. Many aristocratic dragonborn families - and especially the royal line - claim to be able to trace their lineages back to the ancient dragons that once lived on Ikitur, and this direct lineage is a way for people to join the aristocracy or be granted more power than otherwise possible. A small but well-known of the university in Brady Point revolves around archaeology and tracing the lineage of dragons through obscure and ancient literature and arcane means.   Apart from dragons and their humanoid offspring, the other fascinating thing about Ikitur is its tundra and the dark, mysterious fortress that lies in its northern reaches. Eiselberg Keep has been shrouded in literal mist for millennia, with few able to get a clear view of it or its direct surroundings. No one is sure who or what built the keep, but it produces ice storms and freezing mist for several miles around the central fortress, keeping out possible scouts or researchers. The fortress also produces an unending supply of undead which then spread out across the tundra and aimlessly shamble until they find some semblance of life to chase and attack. Further away from the dark fortress, on the far eastern and western coasts of the tundra as well as where it meets the mountains, game is as abundant as one would expect from a tundra, and hunters occasionally make forays up to hunt and trap animals for their fur or other parts.
