Hawthorn Pike
Viscount | Banking Mogul | Aristocratic Blue-Blood
Viscount Hawthorn Matthias Pike
Archivist's Excerpt from: A Tale of Almost Two Cities: Orphan Heights & Related Histories, CVI 42:4
Viscount of Shillingham, Hawthorn Matthias Pike is something of a giant of Orphan Heights, one of the leading members of the Aristocracy, standing member of the House of Nobles of Parliament, owner of the and Chairman of J.G. Pike Central Bank & Trust, and .and major shareholder of the Merchant Interchange, he is among Orphan's most influential and powerful men, as have been the men in his family from the beginning.
The name Pike carries power with it, power, money, and influence, and money is particularly where the Pike name holds weight, having held their resources in banking from the founding of Orphan, and, rumour has it, before. The family predates the towne by a great many years.
A hard man, inflexible, and seeing through the eyes of his ledgers, Pike leverages life as a zero-sum game, and utilizes this same mentality in his work in managing the town as a whole. Though he is married, he has little time for family. He rarely speaks of them, has his children boarded at More Academy, and his wife is hardly seen in public.
There is evidence of a public working relationship with Baron Hiram Lorecroft of Edgemeadow, but while the nature of their affiliation is unclear, it seems often strained, and rather cool. Though Pike is Lorecroft's Aristocratic superior by title, Lorecroft is very clearly the intellectual superior of the two, and it is impossible to mistake. Between these two stubborn men is Inspector General Alec Hartchild, and the three are often seen in company, but again, no one is certain why, as their fields are far from one another. Alas, it must be left to conjecture. Someone contact Gallanby Newkirk at the Hilldiver.
