Coachman Hat

Archivist's Excerpt from: Trinkets, Tech, & Tinkery: A Comprehensive Inventory of All Possible Equipment One Might Need When Circumnavigating the World, Inside & Out, Tabletop Edition, CVI 42.5

Fine hats being commonplace in Orphan Heights, especially with such wondrous establishments as Sophie's Headthings being available among the Merchant Circles, one of the most cosmopolitan choices for the discerning gentlemen is the Coachman. Similar to the top hat, but far shorter, it is a hat easy to don, easy to lilt, easy to doff for a lady or offer one's greetings, and always appear fashionable while doing it.

Sporting a silk band and bow in contrasting colours around the crown and, often, a matching feather tucked in the band, the hat offers the wearer fashion for the elite with the ease of a labourer's wool cap. Also, it is an excellent place to conceal some papers, or something else entirely...

The Coachman hat, as worn by some of the gentlemen of Orphan Towne, and particularly famous as the favourite choice of Edgemeadow's own Baron Hiram Lorecroft.
