Northern Barbarians

The Barbarians of the north, were reclusive before the Immortal Kings created the Necropolis in the northern part of Avenaria. The advent of the undead nation has created a barrier that makes them even more isolated. Coupled with the storms that rage in the Muldoon Bay, and the creatures that dwell in the depths, the Barbarians find themselves in a position where they are confined to the lands of the Winterspite.

Common Dress code

Tribes dress primarily in accord with the harsh, cold environment. Thick furs and oilskins make up the bulk of the material to work with, so a wide variety is somewhat scarce. Tattoos are used as a method of decoration, and status. It is easier to adorn the body than it is to radically change the materials that are available for clothing. Skins from exotic predators that threaten a tribe, are worn as a sign of prowess and stature. The more dangerous the creature the more status is derived from the skin that is worn. Less ethical tribesmen will wear skins from creatures that they themselves have not killed.
Each tribe adorns their clothing with trophies from the namesake animal, or totems of their tribe.

Art & Architecture

Each tribe carries most of their housing with them in the form of tents, that can be set up and taken down as the tribe moves. Most tribes have one or more permanent structures in areas that they house in for extended stays. Those structures are more of a MootHouse, or central structure used for settling tribal disputes, talking about future plans, and also as a central area used to celebrate.

Common Customs, traditions and rituals

Naming traditions, while they differ for each tribe, follow the common tradition that each child born is given a "birth name" but must earn their "true name" during coming of age rites.

Coming of Age Rites

Coming of age involves some sort of trial that each tribe sets with different goals in mind. Completing the trial earns the "child" the right to be renamed and receive or choose their "true name"

Funerary and Memorial customs

The barbarians revere and fear the water. The raging storms created by the collision of scorching hot weather from Sea of Glass and Winterspite create storms that rage constantly. Both climates produce monstrous creatures that inhabit the bay, further enflaming the Barbarians superstitions. These superstitions manifest themselves in ritual sacrifice of their dead to the waters, with the belief that this will gain them Marmon's favor, and Marmon will shield them from the storms and the monsters of the bay, instead using the storms and creatures to keep the Immortals Kings from their lands, as well as protecting their dead from the Immortal Kings and escorting them to the afterlife.

Common Taboos

Hunting game without cause: It is considered taboo to hunt any animal without need for what the animal provides. Trophy hunting would be especially bad.
Waste: Not using everything possible from a kill or forage is considered taboo.
Walking the Ice: Considered taboo to walk across open expanses of ice. The belief is that these pristine lakes of ice are sacred. This idea is upheld by the fact that walking the ice attracts (rhemoraz) Frostfire Burrowers.
Revere the Mammoths: Hunting in the shadow of a a mammoth is considered good luck, because it means that other predators will be scarce. Killing a Mammoth without great need is said to encur the wrath of the gods and bring predators to the tribe.
