Culture

Common Customs, traditions and rituals

The Snow Leopard place great pride and prestige on showing lineage. The more children a Union has, the more prestige the family earns. Naturally this leads to fathers taking care of their wives during child rearing. Often a father that neglects his family during those years finds that his wives seek other suitors.

Until they've passed the rite to adulthood, children follow the lead of their mothers. This includes going with their mothers if their mothers seek courtship away from the child's father.

Ideals

Beauty Ideals

The Snow Leopard like to imitate their totem as much as possible. This lends to tattoos matching the spotted hide of the Snow Leopard. These tattoos generally do not cover facial features, but often cover much of the rest of the body. Each section of the body covered with more and more complicated tattoos. The more complex, and numerous designs commemorating difficult hunts, or overcoming difficult trials.
The tribe's preference for body types is lithe and muscular, rather than the skinny body that the Raven prefer.

Gender Ideals

Men are definitely dominant in terms of "ownership" but women are equally, or more fierce than their male counterparts. Thinking of a woman as only "property" is a sure way for someone to find themselves beaten and left in a snowbank. As women can dictate the terms of a union, and if not pleased, actively seek a different one.

Courtship Ideals

Courtship is determined by the strength of the groom to be. Often, fights occur to claim the right to a woman's hand. This can lead to one male fighting for and winning the rights to many women's hands, but it does not stop another man from challenging at a later date. If a woman is unhappy in their union they can court another man to fight for the right for her hand. Most often unions are between one woman and one man, but a union of one man to many women is not unusual.
