Elves (Parent Group)

Basic Information

Anatomy

Bipedal humanoids of between 4 and a half and 5 and a half feet tall with slender , wiry builds; sharp, aristocratic features; and elongated, pointed ears.

Biological Traits

Elves do not an cannot sleep the way that other races do, instead they enter a trance-like meditation that lasts for 4-6 hours at a time where their minds are highly active at a subconscious level processing through memories and experiences. Elves have an innate connection to magic in their heritage that makes them slightly resistant to being a victim of it.

Genetics and Reproduction

Sexual reproduction between males and females with pregnancy lasting for about 14 months.

Ecology and Habitats

Most elves prefer to locate their communities deep within wild forests. While some of their sub-races are great city-builders, even they prefer their cities to be far from the lands of other races.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Elves are omnivores with a slight preference for red meats accompanied by a wide variety of fruits and vegetables. The red meat often comes from wild herds of game that are carefully managed by their rangers and druids. Both wild and domestic fowl are raised and managed for their meat, eggs, and plumage and elves have mastered the art of blending their farms seamlessly into the groves, glades, and meadows of their woods.

Biological Cycle

Elves remain children for about 50 years before entering a 30 year adolescence. Around age 80 they are considered young adults and enter a period of exploring their talents and interests before settling into full adulthood by age 100. They do not reach old age until around 800, but even then they do not become infirm or decrepit, merely more seasoned.

Additional Information

Facial characteristics

Narrower faces with high cheekbones and aristocratic bone structure mark the elven races. Narrow chins and arched eyebrows give them an androgynous look, and no one can miss their pointed ears.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Elves can typically be found anywhere that large temperate or tropical forests can be found.

Average Intelligence

Comparable to humans. With such a long lifespan and slow rate of maturation virtually any elf is better read than any other race of a comparable age, this leads to them having a much longer and philosophical view and approach to their thinking.
