The Great War of Naramoto

Overview

The Great Naramoto War was one of the most defining conflicts in the history of the island of Naramoto. Lasting nearly twelve years, it began with an invasion by human forces from Schuttarch seeking to seize the island’s resources and strategic position. What began as a brutal invasion quickly escalated into a full-scale war that united Naramoto’s once-divided clans under a single banner for the first time in centuries.   The war ultimately saw the rise of several legendary figures — most notably Kaiya Suzaku (later Kaiya Mordos) — whose heroism turned the tide of battle. The war concluded with a daring counteroffensive, a punitive campaign on Schuttarch’s shores, and a peace treaty that paved the way for Naramoto’s integration into the Kingdom of Asiendal.

Causes of the War

The invasion was triggered by Schuttarch’s growing hunger for resources and trade dominance. Naramoto’s rich deposits of rare metals, unique herbs, and magically-attuned stones made it a tempting target. The Schuttarch human lords believed the Hoshinori would be easy to subjugate, given their fragmented political state and history of clan rivalry.   However, they underestimated the resilience and ferocity of Naramoto’s clans.

Key Factions

Defenders of Naramoto

  • Suzaku Clan: Provided the bulk of elite shinobi forces, with Kaiya Suzaku leading many of the most decisive strikes.
  • Umibari Clan: Specialists in underwater and naval warfare, who crippled enemy fleets with stealth attacks.
  • Fujibayashi Clan: Masters of wind-based jutsu, vital for reconnaissance and rapid strikes.
  • Shogunate Forces: Samurai armies rallied under the Shogun’s banner, providing disciplined infantry and cavalry.

Invaders from Schuttarch

  • Schuttarch Expeditionary Army: A coalition of human lords’ troops, mercenaries, and hired mages.
  • Corsair Fleets: Pirate allies seeking plunder and slaves.
  • Demon Contractors: Rumors persist that some Schuttarch lords bargained with demonic entities for power, causing particularly horrific battles.

Major Campaigns

1. The Coastal Onslaught (Year 1–2)
The war began with a devastating amphibious landing by Schuttarch forces, burning several fishing villages and establishing fortified beachheads. Naramoto’s clans were initially uncoordinated, suffering heavy losses until the Suzaku Clan rallied neighboring clans to form a united front.
2. The Clan Union Accord (Year 3)
A historic council was held at the Suzaku Shrine, where the major clans swore an oath of unity. The Shogun granted Kaiya Suzaku command over joint shinobi operations — a bold move that transformed the war.
3. The Night of Burning Wings (Year 4)
Kaiya Suzaku awakened the Eclipse Form of the Blood Moon Eye and unleashed the first manifestation of the Lunar Exoskeleton, annihilating an entire Schuttarch battalion under a rain of crimson fire. This battle became the turning point of the war and a rallying cry for the defenders.
4. The Scarlet Tide Ambush (Year 6)
Using Umibari sabotage teams and lightning-charged explosive tags, Naramoto’s navy destroyed three-quarters of the Schuttarch invasion fleet in a single night. The enemy was forced into a desperate retreat inland.
5. The Invasion of Schuttarch (Year 9–10)
After driving the enemy into the sea, the clans pursued them across the ocean, striking at Schuttarch coastal towns. This campaign became infamous for its brutality — Naramoto shinobi carried out precision raids that dismantled supply lines, assassinated warlords, and terrorized Schuttarch’s coast until a ceasefire was forced.
6. The Treaty of Twin Moons (Year 12)
With their economy shattered and morale broken, the Schuttarch lords sued for peace. The Treaty of Twin Moons was signed on neutral ground, formally ending hostilities. Naramoto returned home victorious, but deeply scarred by years of war.

Aftermath

The Great Naramoto War changed the island forever:
  • Clans United: For the first time, Naramoto’s clans acted as a unified nation rather than fractured rivals.
  • Rise of Heroes: Figures like Kaiya Suzaku, Katsuro Suzaku, and Emiko Suzaku became living legends.
  • Economic Growth: Seized Schuttarch resources and reparations fueled a period of prosperity.
  • Alliance with Asiendal: King Eremon Mordos visited shortly after the war’s end, offering Naramoto a place within the Kingdom of Asiendal. This alliance brought technological progress, magical knowledge, and economic opportunity to the island, ushering in a golden era.

Legacy

The Great Naramoto War is remembered as both a tragedy and a triumph. Its stories are taught to every Hoshinori child as lessons in unity, perseverance, and the cost of freedom. Every year, during the Crimson Moon Festival, the people of Naramoto light lanterns and perform dances to honor those who fell in battle.   Kaiya Mordos remains the most celebrated hero of the war, her name synonymous with the unbreakable will of Naramoto.
