The Longest Night
The Longest Night is a mythologized oral history of a rare meteorological occurrence, a meteor shower during the longest night of the year. It also tells of how the ancient Cuédleür arrived in Ðiéithtír in the vicinity of Myn Serennyth, the first contact between them and the Fey, and the mythological origins of fire. It has given rise to a yearly pilgrimage, the Path of Stars.
Historical Basis
It is believed that the story of Stars falling has some basis in reality, that being the phenomena of a meteor shower and no visible moon during the longest night of the year. The common hypothesis suggests that the retelling of this event at some point merged with the retelling of the Cuédleür's northern migration and first contact with the local Fey.
Spread
Sometimes referred to as the backbone of Cuédleür mythology, the Longest Night is well-known across Ðiéithtír and is told in regional variations as far south as Solwyn. Though considered folklore by most Asalians, the legend is taken as fact by many Ðiéithryn.
