The Kingdom of Saxalia

Saxalia is the most populous of the Hraldan nations. It is a prosperous nation abundant in natural resources and fertile lands, particularly famous for its agriculture, fed by the many rivers of the Hraldan Valley, including the mighty Mervine river which serves as its eastern border with Bervund. The yearly predictable flooding of the Mervine and its tributaries feeds rich and bountiful fields throughout the entire country.

Demography and Population

The population of Saxalia is overwhelmingly human and Hraldan by background. However, Saxalia's large towns and cities are the most cosmopolitan of the region, home to diverse populations of peoples from across Tenembria. Within the cities, by far the largest sub-groups are Kumari and Itori merchants merchandising and trading in the goods pulled up from the mighty Mervine River.   Saxalia is home to the largest population of Dhaoine outside of their traditional southern homelands. Encouraged by generous land grants and the promise of fair taxation by the Lord's Council of Saxalia some 120 years ago to immigrate in large numbers to the Saxaly Heartlands. The combination of human and dhaoine cultures in these lands has resulted in (though not without friction) the flowering of the region well and above the traditional fertility of the land. Greatly enriching wider Saxalia, and if visitors are to be believed, greatly improving the quality of their culinary arts.   The lands of Saxaly are home to relatively few eirim tribes in comparison to neighboring Loridel, poor treatment of their tribes historically and conflict over lumber and forestry has forced what few tribes that do exist in the Southern forests to mostly avoid interaction with Saxalia. Though some dorfholds persist along the north-eastern ridge of the Seagate Mountains, the twisting blackroads that once provided an alternative passage to the Hraldan valley have mostly been abandoned and the Dorfish holds have little outside contact beyond some local trading.
