The Kingdom of Selmarn
"Selmarn is a tinderbox waiting to be lit, the lords of the south kindle the flames of war without hesitation, knowing that their northern kin like sturdy wood abide." "The Selmarnese are as tough and stubborn as their country but possess a unique warmth of spirit and rugged hospitality. The folkfires burn long in the lands of the Selmarnese, and those who gather round them are welcomed heartily, rare is the traveller left to sleep outside, rarer still one that leaves with an empty belly. Still, one does not mistake their charity for weakness. In times of war the warriors of Selmarn are noted for their determination and fierceness."Stretching from the Upper Mervine in the West to the river Hral in the East, Selmarn is the largest of the Hraldan nations and possesses some of the richest farmland and fishing grounds along the lake itself and the range of low mountains and hillocks which bisect the country's middle, the Selmarns (Salt Mounts) which give the country its name. Its territory however while densely populated along the lake thins out considerably northwards as forest and rocky shield lands, these areas are rich in resources however and afford Selmarn an enviable supply of wealth and resources. This separation between the densely populated and fertile lakeland and the sparse but rich northern marches has long created a divide in Selmarnese society. The Southern Fiefs are rich, prosperous, and numerous, but like many of their neighbours grow fat on the security and relative safety of their region. The Northern fiefs, by contrast lie on the wide border of Selmarn's North, exposed to the wild frontiers of the Northern Dragonspines.
