Estira

Structure

There is a Monarch ruler who is appointed by birth right. Usually, the oldest child of the current ruler is the successor to the throne, but if Tilestras, the sword passed down from ruler to ruler, decides one of the younger children is a better fit, they will be the next ruler instead.

There is also a council to advise the ruler, which is elected by the public. They are also the judges for court cases. The laws, however are made by the monarch.
Except for the Royal family, there isn't really a concept of aristocracy, but the younger siblings of the royal families are usually appointed to administrate the different wood areas. Once a ruler retires and the successor takes up the mantle, the administration also shifts to the new generation and the aristocrat status of the former admins becomes void. It didn't always use to be like that but after the terror reign of one specific royal family had led to a civil war and revolution, back in the time of the three prospering Estirian realms, the role of the monarch and their family had become more restricted. The council was also established then.
Other than that there are different professions that earn a different amount of money but poverty is very low in Estira.

Public Agenda

Estira is mainly trying to stay out of trouble, after a long period of war and conflict.

Assets

Wood, healing herbs, furs, meat, agricultural goods and a rare precious stone only found in the bloom-ridden hills.

History

Estira was founded by Estishya Kutseirth in the Era of Stillness and silence. The woodelves, previously living in the northern woods were forced to move farther south because the trees were dying in the cold climate. Estishya and her people, which were the bigger part of the woodelves, found the Estirian Woods, where they settled and Estishya became the first elf to bend magic to her will.
Estira has had a long and troubled history, accompanied by many fracturings. It started out as one big realm under Estishya's reign, but when she died in a war with the bearskins, the realm was quick to fracture into three, later seven and in the end 12 different realms, before returning to a three realm structure, and finally being reunited into one realm by Shian Talukhin.

Demography and Population

Mainly wood elves and a small population of humans, nomads of the eastern plains, who live there semi permanently. Estira has a population of about 65'000 people.

Territories

The Realm of Estira comprises of the Estiran Woods and the areas in-between. The territory was uninhabited before the Wood Elves settled there.

Military

They have a border defense troup, guardians of the palace, each city has its own defense guard and many hunters are also educated in combat and warfare.

Technological Level

Estira is great at everything to do with wood. Their hunting gear and apparel is on the cutting edge in Arregeas. Other than that, as the birthplace of controlled magic, they mostly rely on that and their magic forms are quite advanced, especially the Estirian Runes make everyday life a lot easier.

Religion

Estira almost exclusively practices Nature Dualism but in recent years spirit worship has started to gain popularity in the southern regions, but more as an additional practice, not a replacement for Nature Dualism

Foreign Relations

There is trade but other relations are very limited. The estirians like to keep to themselves. They live rather secluded from the rest of the world after a long era of war and defending their borders.
Their closest ties are probably with the Nomads of the Eastern Plains, whom they trade with for certain medical herbs.

Agriculture & Industry

In the areas between the woods they have huge plantages of wheat, barley, dinkel wheat, potatoes and even rice.

Trade & Transport

Their trade is mainly with agricultural goods. They also export nuts they collect from the trees in the forest as well as cherries and plums. They also export meat from the animals they hunt.
Wood from their trees is also a great resource that gets traded but most of it is used in Estira to build houses, furniture and hunting gear. Especially becuase the Estirian wood is extra durable and doesn't rot easily and it also smells nice.
Wood carvings are also becoming more popular, so there is an emerging art trade being established.

Education

Education, as with most elven societies is held in incredibly high regard, especially knowledge of surrounding nature, healing magic, history and hunting techniques are important. There is also some basic physics for handling weapons and some basic maths to learn the handling of money and different currencies and to follow the natural cycles.
For people who aspire to be architects, higher mathematic skills are needed and therefore a special education is required.
There is generally a basic education that needs to be completed by everyone and then there are multiple branches of higher education, that are not mandatory except for certain professions (healer, architect etc.). In companion to the higher education there is also a practical part, the apprenticeship.
There are, however, jobs that don't require higher academic education but an apprenticeship only (e.g blacksmith, hunter etc.) and then there are professions that don't require either and these are mainly in the creative or entertainment branch. These jobs, however, are very unstable and only few of those who choose that path are successful.

Infrastructure

The elves built an intricate system of bridges and plattforms in the trees but there are also some roads on the ground, mainly for trade and foreigners who might not be familiar with the tree system. These roads need a lot of maintenanc, which tends to be neglected because most elves use the tree roads..
